INTRODUCTION

The main focus of the report is to improve the performance of the Sports Club. For this, I
have selected football as a sport. Since the financial performance cannot be directly changed
so the KPIs for the coach and players are to be framed.

IDENTIFICATION OF STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE

The strategic objectives of the Football Club are as follows:


 To win the upcoming matches.
 Provide relevant training to the players.
 Involve whole team in performance goal setting.
 Goals should be listed on the basis of priority.
 Set an achievable goal for the players.
 Making provisions for the club so that the club can deal at the time of emergency.
 Look for suppliers who can provide football related equipment at a low price.
 Manage all the expense of the club so as to reduce the overall cost.

LINKS TO THE COURSE

 Training and coaching- a proper training would help the players in performing better
in the field. So it is essential that training of adequate time is being provided to the
players so that they can help in achieving the goal of the Club. The club has to ensure
that a good coach is being provided to the players as he would be the one to mentor
the players and would be the training them throughout.

 Feedback- a proper feedback is essential for the growth of the players. So, it is the
duty of the coach and the club to provide a correct feedback to the players so that they
can improve at the places where they are lacking. Also, the peers should give a
feedback too as this will help in better understanding between the team and would
yield good results as it is a team sports.

 Communication- For everything to run in a smooth manner, an effective


communication is required. Effective communication between the coach, players and
the club would help in achieving the goals at a fast pace. By having an effective
communication, those goals can be set and discussed with everyone in the club so that
everyone would have the same vision.

 Measuring Performance- performance monitoring and measurement is very


essential as this is help in understanding how much we have achieved till now by
doing the efforts and how much more of such efforts are required in order to achieve
our goal. It is the duty of the coach to monitor the performance of the players so that
they work and make progress to achieve the goals. Also, monitoring performance
would help in giving a right and unbiased feedback to the players. For the coach, it is
the club that needs to monitor the performance as the performance of the coach
related to training, providing feedback to the players, hiring good players, etc. So, if
these are good then his performance is also good and vice versa.

 Process of linking performance management to strategic plan- how objectives are


linked with performance management is one the things that needs to be done in this
assignment. So, how the strategic plan or objectives are linked with performance
management is shown in the assignment. Also, it is obvious that KPIs are linked with
the strategic objectives and KPIs are created by keeping in mind the objectives of the
company.

PERFORMANCE MEASURES FOR OBJECTIVE IDENTIFIED

For measuring how the objectives are to be met, framing KPIs is very much important. A Key
Performance Indicator or KPI is a measurable value that demonstrates how effectively a
company is achieving key business objectives. So as the club is a football club and different
players would get different roles and functions in their specific position, so the KPIs would
also differ accordingly. The various positions in a football team are: Goalkeeper, full backs,
center backs, holding midfield, attacking midfield, wide midfield and strikers. Also not just
this, the KPI for coach would be totally different from the players. So, the following can be
the KPIs that the football club can use:

KPIs for coach


 Training Cost per player- this would let the club understand that how much money
is invested in providing training to each player.
 Training effectiveness- how much effective training is provided and how it will help
in attaining their final goal.
 Engagement index- this would help in understanding that how many players are
engaged in the training activities. A higher engagement index of a player would mean
that high productivity while a lower engagement index would mean low productivity.
 Absenteeism- this would help a coach in knowing how many days a player is taking a
leave. Also, it would help in knowing the cost incurred to the club if any players is
absent in the practice sessions.
 Player productivity- would help a coach in understanding which player is more
productive and how much of this is because of the training that is being provided to
him.
 Vacation Days Used- to understand that whether there is a work life balance or not in
the lives of the players as a proper balance would yield better results.
 Average Time- the time spent by players with the coach during the training sessions.
 Quality of hire- this would let the club know that whether the coach has selected the
best talents or not. High quality hire would mean that the club could reach its strategic
goals.

KPIs for Players

These are the various traits that a player should have in their specific positions. These traits
can be taken as basis for evaluating the player’s performance.
 Goalkeeper- Agility, power, coordination, reaction time, concentration, passing,
throwing, speed, punch, ball control, throw, tackle.
 Other players- Speed, stamina, power, tackling, dribbling, defensive header,
concentration, motivation, passing, running off the ball, dribbling, crossing, shooting,
communication, strength, running with the ball, attitude, organization, interception,
anticipation, awareness of space, support play.

Also, apart from this other ways to set and evaluate KPIs for players are:
 Training performance- have to ensure that the training which is been provided is
how much effective and how many players are able to perform well in their training.
 Time devotion- another way to understand player’s motivation for the sport is to see
that how much time is spent by the player on the field. If a player is devoting extra
time in the field then it means that the player is motivated intrinsically and external
motivation is not required.
 Performance on field of generic players- for the generics players i.e. players other
than the goalkeeper, how many goals they are able to secure and how they are
defending the opposition from securing a goal would help in measuring their
performance.
 Performance on field of goalkeeper- it is important for a goalkeeper to not let the
ball of the opposition in the goal. So, how much the goalkeeper is able to defend the
ball from getting into the goal is essential to evaluate his performance.

ESTABLISH TARGETS AND THRESHOLDS


Targets are the main reason why objectives were framed and targets will help us in achieving
our goals. The targets and thresholds vary to organization to organization. For a Football
club, the target is to reach the highest performance in their sports category. So, these can be
the various targets for the club:

 High level of performance in getting more goals should be one of the targets. Also,
ensuring that the goalkeeper of our team do not let the other team to secure any goals.
 Go with targets like doing minimum of 5 goals in the first half or doing almost equal
goals as the other team so that there are chances of winning.
 Try not to level the goals if you are at a strong position as this can lead to your loss. If
the match is draw then a penalty shootout would decide the winner, so ensure that at
this time your goalkeeper is ready to defend.
 If you are at weak position, try leveling your goals so that when the match is draw
after 90 mins so you have a chance to win the match at the penalty shootout. Send the
best striker to ensure a win.
 Avoid getting yellow or red cards, so avoid doing fouls.
 Try putting as much pressure on the other team as possible.
 The ultimate target is to win. So using all the above targets, this can be achieved.
