Summary 6 Topic: Future Continuous
Summary 6 Topic: Future Continuous
The continuous future is one of the three future times, along with the simple future and the
perfect future. We use it to express an action in progress at a specific time in the future. It should
be noted that there are two types of continuous future, the future simple continuous (will be) and
the idiomatic future continuous (going to be).
Of course, as a "plus" it should be clarified that both the form with ‘Will Be’ and ‘Going to Be’ are
used for almost the same thing and are interchangeable. Which reduces the grammatical
complexity of this ‘Future tense’.
Composition
The future simple continuous is made up of a subject and the auxiliary WILL BE. This is the
structure of it.

Type Grammar structure Example
Affirmative Subject + WILL BE + V+ING + Complement Sarah will be dancing all
night long.
Negative Subject + WILL NOT (WON’T) BE + V+ING + Sarah won’t be dancing all
Complement night long.
Interrogative WILL + Subject + BE + V+ING + Q: Will Sarah be dancing all
Complement + ? night long?
A: Yes, She will be / No, She
won’t be.
Composition
The idiomatic future continuous is made up of a subject and the expression GOING TO BE. This is
the structure of it.
General structure
Type Grammar structure Example
Affirmative Subject + AUX “TO BE” + GOING TO BE + Sarah is going to be dancing
V+ING + Complement all night long.

Unlike the future simple, the two forms of the continuous future mean almost the same thing and
are interchangeable. Also, the uses of the continuous future are the same as the continuous past,
but in the future.
1. The future continuous describes the action that will be in the future and that will be

1. *In the future continuous, it is very common to use "STILL" in sentences to give more
consistency. In other words, to specify that an action will continue to be carried out
(doing).
We’ll still be working at 10 o’ clock tomorrow night. / We’re still going to be working at 10 o’
clock tomorrow night.
1. To talk about actions that will be needed in the future and that will be interrupted by
