Fashion trends can impact society in several ways. Trends spread through designers creating versions that the public buys, influencing economics. They also sway politics and serve as art forms. Fashion affects people's identities and self-confidence through enclothed cognition, the idea that what we wear psychologically impacts how we perceive ourselves. Choosing ethical fashion can further link people to the origins of clothes and bigger issues. Overall, fashion is a form of self-expression that directly influences people's lives.

Fashion is a popular style, especially in clothing, footwear, lifestyle, accessories, makeup, hairstyle and

body. Fashion is a distinctive and often constant trend in the style in which people present themselves.
A fashion can become the prevailing style in behaviour or manifest the newest creations of designers,
technologists, engineers, and design managers.

Because the more technical term costume is regularly linked to the term "fashion", the use of the
former has been relegated to special senses like fancy-dress or masquerade wear, while the word
"fashion" often refers to clothing, including the study of clothing. Although aspects of fashion can be
feminine or masculine, some trends are androgynous.

High-flying trendsetters in fashion can aspire to the label haute couture. But if one disapproves of a
fashion, one can attempt to dismiss it as a mere fad

Fashion industry

The notion of global fashion industry is a product of the modern age. Prior to the mid-19th century,
most clothing was custom-made. It was handmade for individuals, either as home production or on
order from dressmakers and tailors. By the beginning of the 20th century—with the rise of new
technologies such as the sewing machine, the rise of global capitalism and the development of the
factory system of production, and the proliferation of retail outlets such as department stores—clothing
had increasingly come to be mass-produced in standard sizes and sold at fixed prices.

Although the fashion industry developed first in Europe and America, as of 2017, it is an international
and highly globalized industry, with clothing often designed in one country, manufactured in another,
and sold worldwide. For example, an American fashion company might source fabric in China and have
the clothes manufactured in Vietnam, finished in Italy, and shipped to a warehouse in the United States
for distribution to retail outlets internationally. The fashion industry has long been one of the largest
employers in the United States, and it remains so in the 21st century. However, U.S. employment
declined considerably as production increasingly moved overseas, especially to China. Because data on
the fashion industry typically are reported for national economies and expressed in terms of the
industry's many separate sectors, aggregate figures for world production of textiles and clothing are
difficult to obtain. However, by any measure, the clothing industry accounts for a significant share of
world economic output. The fashion industry consists of four levels:

1.the production of raw materials, principally fibers and textiles but also leather and fur.

2.the production of fashion goods by designers, manufacturers, contractors, and others.

3.retail sales

4.various forms of advertising and promotion

These levels consist of many separate but interdependent sectors. These sectors are Textile Design and
Production, Fashion Design and Manufacturing, Fashion Retailing, Marketing and Merchandising,
Fashion Shows, and Media and Marketing. Each sector is devoted to the goal of satisfying consumer
demand for apparel under conditions that enable participants in the industry to operate at a profit.
Fashion Trends According to Generations X, Y, and Z

Fashion trends mirror generations. With trends that come and go over time, some classic pieces just
never run out of style. Claiming old trends as vintage fashion, we like to give it a little modern twist. In
the ’90s, fanny packs are nothing but a practical bag that tourist dads usually wear on family vacation.
Fast forward to 2018, fanny packs are worn as a cross-body bag by trendy fashionistas you see on
Instagram.

Every generation came up with fashion trends that redefined how we see clothing today. Whether it’s
inspired from a certain film, book, or a Hollywood celebrity, it’s amazing to see how these generations
shaped itself based on how people dress at that time. Every generation is unique and with them, came
with different tastes in fashion. Here are fashion trends based on generations X, Y, and Z.

Generation X

Most likely, Gen X’s are your parents. Believe it or not, your mom’s generation was stereotyped
as lazy and unenthusiastic because they were only interested in MTV, rock n’ roll, and other
pop culture shenanigans. Crazy, right? So think classic movies such as The Breakfast Club,
Clueless, and The Wizard of Oz.  In terms of fashion, they saw the rise and fall of shoulder
pads. But other than that, it was the era of alternative rock music – so grunge looks and punk
rock was everyone’s go-to style. Think oversized denim jackets, leather jackets, metallic studs,
and unkempt hair. Girls would draw their eyes with black, bold eyeliners and spray their hair
with an overwhelmingly amount of hairspray.

Generation Y a.K.a “The Millennials” (1978-1998)

Millennials have seen pretty interesting stuff that no other early generations would expect.
Witnessing the rise of the Internet, they have gained unlimited access to information, so they
tend to have different strong opinions and beliefs. In this era, social media platforms such as
Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are what kept them busy. This was also the era of popular
illuminati theories and mobile phones. Their childhood TV shows are Hannah Montana, iCarly,
Punk’d and Gossip Girl. Their obsession with Harry Potter, Star Wars, and High School Musical
also includes this list.

A new trend was made popular among millennials is the minimalist fashion. It’s basically the
definition of “less is more” where millennials are decluttering their closets and upgrading it
with a curated wardrobe in various shades of black, white, and gray. Pieces such as fresh white
sneakers, denim jacket, a white button-up shirt, and black skinny jeans are one of the few must-
haves for that minimalist wardrobe.
Generation Z (born 1998 to 2010)

For being the first generation to not remember a time where smart phones, the internet, and
social media did not exist, kids from Gen Z are the natives of digital content. They mostly rely
on the internet for instant access to information and entertainment. Appls like Netflix, Uber,
and Spotify for the win, hands down. This generation is considered as the golden age of TV
shows; Stranger Things, Riverdale, Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, and more are what Gen
Z’s obsess over. They also fan over popular Youtubers, to name a few are Lelepons, DanTDM,
and Pewdiepie.

Their fashion choices are leaning towards gender fluidity and body positivity. Their style is
mostly influenced by popular internet personalities on Instagram where furry sandals, sock
booties, tracksuits, body suits, colorful sunglasses, and feminist graphic shirts are examples of
their fashion taste. Other than these statement pieces, luxury streetwear fashion is also a
popular choice. When sweat shorts are once used to wear as pajamas, they are now a streetwear
fashion piece that are considered stylish. Hence to normcore fashion style, this is a type of
fashion that are composed of outfits that make you blend in with the norm but actually makes
you stand out. Confusing, right?

Fashion Trends And Its Impact On Society

“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street; fashion has to
do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”

From a crawling baby of some months old to a white hair, teeth broken lady every single individual has
their own fashion statement. Fashion is endless and is been around since the beginning of human race

Fashion is something we deal with every day. One can find a lot of changes and evolution in the history
of fashion. Fashion can affect the economy of a country or the whole world. It can sway politics, serve as
an art form and can affect someone’s personal life.

Needless to say, fashion is arguably being one of the biggest factors that affect and that can be affected
by the society. It has always been present and will be present for as long as human race exists.

Trends are really what the fashion world go round- a new trend catches on, designers make their own
versions, the public buys these products, the trend fades and a new trend emerges. Trends has a large
broad spectrum which includes various fields such as; clothing, footwear, accessories, makeup, body
piercing, tattooing, plastic surgeries, Interior Design or furniture

Fashion Affects Us Everyday

Clearly, the theoretical job interview situation is a no-brainer. However, enclothed cognition does affect
us on a day-to-day basis, which is why fashion has such an importance in everyone’s life. If you wear
clothes, you are participating in fashion. Think of the feeling you might have had when purchasing a new
top or pair of shoes and how excited you were to incorporate it into an outfit.
Do not worry what anyone else might think of you. Dress selfishly. Dress knowing what you wear has a
direct impact on how you carry yourself and your self-confidence. Don’t let the small opinions of other
around you dictate how you should look and what’s deemed “appropriate”. I promise that just this small
psychological change can have a large impact on your life. Just watch how fashion affects your self-
confidence.

Fashion is about expressing your identity, showing someone who you are through your fashion choices
and using your clothes to tell someone something about you. Or at least it is for me- I suppose for some
people clothing is just about comfort or utility but for me it's about expressing myself.

Part of choosing ethical fashion over other fashion brands adds another element to what fashion means
to me and what I choose to express to other people. For me fashion isn't just about picking pretty
garments that show off my personality, it's also about linking me to where the clothes themselves have
come from- they make me feel like I'm part of the bigger picture. I choose clothes based on where they
have come from and who has made them. I like to know that what I'm wearing hasn't negatively
impacted on someone else's life and by wearing that, I not only pick those garments for my own benefit
but I express that to everyone else who sees me wearing them. I suppose other people might not pick
up on it to the same extent that I do as I tend not to wear garments with 'Fair Trade' or 'Oxfam'
emblazoned over the front of them but anyone who knows me even a little will know how I pick my
clothes.

These are three of many words that can be associated with fashion and the industry that falls behind it.
Many take what they see and make assumptions based off of the price of clothes, the models and the
opinions and ideas that the fashion industry supports.

However, fashion is so much more than the millionaires that are seen on the ads and campaigns.

Beauty, self-expression, self-confidence, progression

These are four more words that can also be used to describe fashion and these four words, among many
more, are the soul purpose why fashion has such a huge impact on many lives, including my own.

Fashion means to me so much more than making money off a collection, or being on the cover of Vogue,
but it means the experimentation to find how you truly want to express yourself and how confident you
feel once you find the perfect combination of clothing.

It's forever changing and keeping the world on it's toes and how can anyone deny the excitement that
comes along with that? You simply can't.

As some preach to the fact that they don't care about trends or what they wear, they can't deny that
fashion is at the center of every person's world. The clothes you put on and the way you do your hair,
trendy or not, is what comes together to define you.

This definition changes as time goes on, as your personality progresses with time and these changes
commemorate times in your life that you don't ever want to forget (or are trying really, really hard to
forget but pictures do last forever so you can't).

People idolize the beauty and confidence that comes with fashion.
