GUIDELINE FOR VIRTUAL ACTIVITIES

Gain Attention
Learners from schools should receive an appropriate input from the teacher e.g. a video or a Power Point presentation
with audio, etc. Remember the importance of gaining attention from students. (colorful material, good energy from
teacher, role plays, puppets, songs, etc)
Activate prior Knowledge
Pre-service teacher should choose the appropriate topics and activities considering the suggested curriculum. Pre-
service teachers should activate students ‘prior knowledge, explain the new content, provide some practical activities,
examples, exercises to then ask them to work by themselves. Teachers also must plan some practical activities for
students to practice at home.
Present content: Through videos, power point presentations with audio, use of images, etc. Remember also to
provide guidance. (show students some examples on what is expected from them to do at home)
Practice: Ask students to practice at home. They should be able to work by themselves. They do not need their
parents help, neither to translate information. If students have difficulties, ask them to watch the videos (input) one
more time.

Organization
Your virtual activities should be clearly organized into different steps: input, explanation of activities to do at home,
activities for students to work by themselves.
Language accuracy
It should not contain major errors. Be careful with pronunciation, stress and intonation. Audio must be clear. Please
have in mind student’s age and English level

Weekly lesson plan format for virtual activities (with explanations)

Name of practitioner: María Fernanda Castaño Morales

Grade: 3-A

Date: 09/09/2020

Main aim based on DBAs: Identify and express the effects of their actions on their local environment (neighborhood,
district, city, town) using simple phrases in English.

Content from DBAs: Animals and their habitats

Aim for this session: To recognize the habitat of different animal and describe them using present simple.

Students previous knowledge: Vocabulary about animals: cat, dog, birds, parrot, iguana, bees, fish, cow, bat, insects,
tiger, lion, giraffe

Present Content: The practitioner will start the class by introducing herself and welcoming the students to the English
class. Each student will have the opportunity to introduce him/herself with a simple English structure presented by the
teacher: My name is _____ I am _____ years old . Teacher and students will interact some minutes in order to know
each other. Then, the students will be aware of the class rules (which will be presented in an image) and will be asked
to write them down in a notebook, also, the teacher will give a brief explanation about the use of the microphone and the
raise your hand option (in order to participate appropriately). Finally, the teacher will let them know that all the classes
will start with a routine which is singing and dancing the hello song. The hello video will be presented, and some
minutes of the class will be dedicated to learning and practicing the lyrics and movements of the song. (20 min)
After that, the teacher will introduce the topic of the class. She will explain that they are going to review the topic of
animals and habitats, so the students will be asked to name all the animals they know/remember in English. Then, the
practitioner will show them a power point presentation in which there will be images of different animals from different
habitats. The teacher will interact with the students by asking questions about each animal such as: Do you know this
animal? Have you seen this animal before? Do you think this animal is pretty? Where do you think this animal live? …
After that, the students will practice the vocabulary with a “I see, I see game” by finding different animals in a landscape
full of animals (For example: Teacher: which animals can you see here? where is the lion? Students: detrás de el árbol)

Students will be asked to stand up and do a list of movements guide by the teacher. Thus, in order to avoid boring them
with too much information. The teacher will propose different body movements, and also will ask the students to imitate
certain animals, for example: hands up- hands down- jump- lion- shake- jump- hands up- giraffe- sit down, stand up-
dog- shake and sit down.

The practitioner will talk about the characteristics of some animals and will explain that according to their characteristics,
those animals live in different environments; then she will show them a video in which there are projected the different
habitats in which each animal live. (1:40 min)

The teacher will use the previous power point presentation to practice the content of the video. She will ask the
students: do you remember where (animals) live? And will introduce in an implicit way the chunk: (animals) live in
(habitat)

In order to practice, the teacher will project the image of a habitat and will ask the student to draw one of the animals
that live there. This activity will be repeated with different images of habitats. The students will have to show the
drawings to the teacher and say which animal they drew.

The teacher will implement a listening activity, which consists of listen to different audios in which an animated animal is
introducing himself and mentioning the habitat in which he lives. The students will have to write on the chat what is the
animal that is talking. The teacher will interact with the answers and will let them know which is the correct
option/answer, at the same time she will use the language chunks in an implicit way by repeating some information
provided on the audios.

Finally, the teacher will sing a simple song that says “ Now is time to say goodbye, say goodbye, say goodbye. Now is
time to say goodbye, goodbye everyone” and will motivate the students to singing it. She will explain the homework
activities and the class will be finished.

Practical activity to let students know what they must do at home by themselves: The teacher will explain the homework
which will consist of talking about an animal that they know, for example: their pets. The teacher will provide the
structures that they can use for describing it, and will provide an example with a teddy

Practical activities for students to do at home: Finally, she will let them know that she will send a worksheet in which
they will have to match some animals with their respective habitats.
