Real Numbers
1. Show that (√3+√5)² is an irrational number.
2. If HCF of 144 and 180 is expressed in the form 13m – 3, find the value of m.(ans 3)
3. Show that 9n can not end with digit 0 for any natural number n
4. By using, Euclid’s algorithm, find the largest number which divides 650 and 1170.

5. Find HCF of 65 and 117 and find a pair of integral values of m and n such that HCF =
65m + 117n.(ans 2 , -1)

6. If   find the values of m and n where m and n are non-negative


integers.Hence write its decimal expansion without actual division. (ans 5, 3 ,
terminating )
7. Show that the square of any positive odd integer is of the form 8m + 1, for some
integer m.
8. Prove that 2√3 – 1 is an irrational number.
Polynomials
9. An NGO decided to distribute books and pencils to the students of a school running
by some other NGO. For this they collected some amount from different people. The
total amount collected is represented by 4x4 + 2x3 – 8x2 + 3x – 7.  From this fund each
student received an equal amount. The number of students, who received the
amount, is represented by x – 2 + 2x2. After distribution, 5x -11, amount is left with
the NGO which they donated to school for their infrastructure. Find the amount
received by each student from the NGO. What value has been depicted here?(ans
2x2 -2 , Humanity and Socialism)
10. Obtain all other zeroes of the polynomial x4 – 17x2 – 36x – 20, if two of its zeroes are
+ 5 and – 2.(ans -2 , -1)
11. Divide the polynomial x4 – 9x2 + 9 by the polynomial x2 -3x and verify the division
algorithm.
12. If the product of zeroes of the polynomial ax2 – 6x – 6 is 4, find the value of a. Find
the sum of zeroes of the polynomial. (Ans -3/2, -4)
13. Obtain all other zeroes of the polynomial x4 – 3√2x3 – 3x2 + 3√2x – 4, if two of its
zeroes are √2 and 2√2.(ans -1,1)
14. If the zeroes of the polynomial x2 + px + q are double in value to the zeroes of 2x2 –
5x – 3, find the value of p and q.(ans – 5 , - 6)
15. If the polynomial x4 – 6x3 + 16x2  – 25x + 10 is divided by ( x 2– 2x + k) the remainder
comes out to be x+ a, find k and a. (ans 5, -5)
16. It being given that 1 is one of the zeroes of the polynomial 7x – x3 – 6. Find its other
zeroes.

17. Obtain all other zeroes of the polynomial x 4– 3x 3-x 2 + 9x – 6, if two of its zeroes are

Linear Equations in two variables
22. A cyclist, after riding certain distance, stopped for half an hour to repair his bicycle after
which he completes the whole journey of 30km at half speed in 5 hours. If the breakdown
had occurred 10km farther off, he would have done the whole journey in 4 hours. Find
where the breakdown occurred and his original speed.
23. A boat covers 14 kms in upstream and 20 kms downstream in 7 hours. Also it covers 22
kms upstream and 34 kms downstream in 10 hours. Find the speed of the boat in still
water and of that the stream.
24. Draw the graph of 2x+y=6 and 2x-y+2=0. Shade the region bounded by these lines and x
axis. Find the area of the shaded region
25.  When you add two numbers and the number obtained by reversing the order of its digits
is 165. If the both numbers differ by three, find the number.
26.  A number say z is exactly the four times the sum of its digits and twice the product of the
digits. Find the numbers.
27. There are two points A and B on a highway . They are 70 km apart. An auto starts from A
and another auto starts from B simultaneously. If they travel in the same direction, they
meet in 7 hours, but if they travel towards each other they meet in 1 hour. Find how fast
the two autos are.
28. A diver rowing at the rate of 5 km/h in still water takes double the time in going 40 km
upstream as in going 40 km downstream. Find the speed of the stream.
29. The larger of two supplementary angles exceeds thrice the smaller by 20 degrees. Find
them.
30. The sum of two children is ‘a’. The age of the father is twice the ‘a’. After twenty years,
his age will be equal to the addition of the ages of his children. Find the age of father.
31. At a certain time in a deer park the number of heads and number of legs of deer and
human visitors were counted and it was found that there were 39 heads and 132 legs.
Find the number of deers and human visitors in the park.
Quadratic Equations
32. Had Ravita scored 10 more marks in her Mathematics test out of 30 marks, 9 times these marks
would have been the square of her actual marks. How many marks did she get in the test?
33. A motor boat whose speed is 18 km/h in still water takes 1 hour more to go 24 km upstream than
to return downstream to the same spot. Find the speed of the stream.
34.  In a class test, the sum of marks obtained by P in Mathematics and Science is 28. Had he got 3
more marks in Mathematics and 4 marks less in Science, the product of marks obtained in the two
subjects would have been 180? Find the marks obtained in two subjects separately.

37.  A train, travelling at a uniform speed for 360 km, would have taken 48 minutes less to travel the
