Conditional sentences 1, 2, 3 and mixed conditionals
A. Rewrite the sentences as mixed conditionals (8p):
1. I don’t know her. I didn’t call her name.
If I knew her, I would’ve called her name.
2. They didn’t tell me. Now I have no idea what to do.
If they had told me, I would know what to do now.
3. I’m always late. I lost my job last week.
If I weren’t always late, I wouldn’t have lost my job last week.
4. Paul drove too fast. Now he’s in trouble with the police.
If Paul hadn’t driven so fast he wouldn’t be in trouble with the police now.
5. She doesn’t have a degree, so she didn’t get the job.
If she had a degree, she would have got the job.
6. We didn’t sign up for that skiing class. Now we can’t go to Bariloche.
If he had signed up for that skiing class, we could go to Bariloche now.
7. Mark and Kate didn’t clean their house. Now they are embarrassed to have visitors.
If Mark and Kate had cleaned their house they wouldn’t be embarrassed to have visitors.
8. I’m not hard-working. My grades were very low last month.
If I were hard-working, my grades wouldn’t have been so low last month.

B. Complete the sentences using the words given. You cannot alter the word given in any way (6p):
1. I will not divulge your secret if you don’t want me to. UNLESS
I won’t divulge your secret UNLESS you want___ me to.
2. We can go, the only condition is that the weather is nice. PROVIDED
We will/can go PROVIDED that the weather___ is nice.
3. I don’t want to talk to her. She’s too annoying. SO
I would talk to her if she weren’t SO___ annoying.
4. We managed to get up on time by going to bed early. LATE
If we had gone to bed LATE, we wouldn’t have managed to get up___ in time.
5. Jane can help you, but you need to tell her in advance. LONG
Jane will/can help you as LONG as you tell her___ in advance.
6. He has tried everything, that’s why he’s telling you there is no solution. IMPOSSIBLE
If he hadn’t tried everything, he wouldn’t be telling you that it’s IMPOSSIBLE___ to solve.
