High-Density Polyethylene: What Is HDPE?
High-Density Polyethylene: What Is HDPE?
What is HDPE?
High-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe is an exceptional piping product with a lengthy list of benefits.
HDPE has been in use for more than 50 years, building decade after decade of proven performance.
It is a ductile, durable, virtually inert thermoplastic that is highly resistant to cyclical fatigue and well
suited for a broad range of demanding applications. As the largest HDPE supplier in North America,
ISCO Industries can provide piping solutions anywhere in the U.S. and across the globe. HDPE is
primarily used for chilled water underground.
Performance Characteristics
• Temp range of -40ºF to 140ºF
• Burst strength of 4X the operating pressure
• Hydraulically efficient (C-Factor 150)
• Non-toxic and non-tasting for AWWA/NSF
• Leak Free
Physical Characteristics
• Lightweight
• Flexible
• UV protected (2% Carbon Black)
• Fatigue and surge tolerant
• Corrosion/Abrasion/Chemical resistant
(ph1.5 to 14)

PP-RCT: Polypropylene Random
Crystalline Temperature
What is PP-RCT?
Polypropylene Random Crystalline Temperature pipe is a lightweight piping product with a fiberglass
layer that reduces linear thermal expansion and contraction up to 75% compared to HDPE. This pipe is
primarily used above ground and has a pressure rating to 230ºF with no reduction in its 100 year design
life. The most common applications using PP-RCT are hydronic heating distribution, chilled water
distribution, chemical process piping, and so much more! PP-RCT is primarily used for potable and
non-potable water inside buildings.
Performance Characteristics
• Temp range of -5ºF to 230ºF
• Hydraulically efficient (C-Factor 150)
• Chlorine resistant
• Reduced heat transfer value (less insulation)
Physical Characteristics
• Corrosion/Abrasion/Chemical resistant
• Impact durability
• Will not tuberculate
• Non-toxic and non-tasting with NSF approval
• Linear expansion is 2-1/4” over 100-foot span
with 100 degree temperature change
Victaulic
What are Victaulic couplings?
Victaulic couplings are mechanical joining methods for HDPE, PE-RT, and PP-RCT pipe. This method is
ideally used in tight spaces where the installation needs to be quick and immediately in service.
Victaulic couplings are weather independent and can actually be installed in wet
conditions, becuase no power is needed. These couplings are installed with an impact wrench or
standard socket, so they are perfect for that tough, tight and last minute situations.
