To learn the natural science as a subject, it is important to make the student a better
understanding of the subject by allowing them to see and observe the natural environment.
Natural Park, sanctuary, national park, forest and zoological garden are appropriate piace to
study the animal in-situ as well as ex-situ. Nowadays we observe and see the degradation of
natural environment due to different anthropogenic activities. Some of the anthropogenic
activities are construction of road, urbanization, construction of dam, firewood and timber
collection, conversion of agricultural land, shifting and Jhum cultivation etc. which directly
degrade the natural habitat of the wild life.
‘One major factor which leads to such degradation due to anthropogenic activities is
Ignorance of the local people, During such field study tour we have an opportunity to interact
with different people with different background. During such interaction we are also getting an
opportunity to give some message to the people about the importance of WILD LIFE, the need
of conservation of NATURE and NATURAL RESOURCES including the different FLORA and
FAUNA evailable in different ecosystem.
Fortunately nowadays various voluntary organization including different NGOs, Local
Clubs come forward to conserve the environment of Keibul Lamjao. When we visit, the National
Park authority has informed us that one NGO (ATREE) organized a National Workshop inside
the National Park during 2016 in order to give the message of importance of the conservation of
nature and natural resources. The volunteer of the local club informed us that the ATREE has its
‘own portal system which assists any layman in identification of any variety of plant or animal.
The only thing is we have to upload the photograph of the specimen to their portal system and
they will provide the reliable information. We are also inform that different resource persons
mentioned the importance of involvement of local people in exploration of biodiversity as well
as conservation aspect and information.Value of Study Tou
Field study is amt essential part of the study of life Science. Only classroom instructions
cannot bring the all round development of the student. To widen the sphere of mental level of the
student, they should be given a chance to get direct and firsthand experience to see the things
themselves. To study animal in the natural environment where all the animals live in their natural
habitat is oue of the most interesting and useful experience for « student of Biology. This
enhance the knowledge that we learnt from our classroom discussion and Laboratory experiences
in which we can observe, study and experience is quite a good thing,
Another important aspect is apprehending knowledge of thing is always required for one
of the start of a particular study. And one can hope to achieve experience of the interaction of the
living thing with their environment from such field trip. In fact classroom study and field study
are supplementary to each other. It has also relief from daily classroom teaching when students
spend a few hours in an informal atmosphere. It also motivates the students to lea science in
their first hand and stimulates their interest. The scientific facts and principles become more
realistic to the students when they see the relation between science and the society. Moreover
students learn to co-operate amongst themselves and also with the member of the community. As
a result it develops the power of critical thinking so that they apply element of scientific method.
Lastly but not the least, it develops leadership and self confidence in the students.
Keeping all these in view and for partial fulfillment of our syllabus, our teacher took
keen interest in organizing such study tour for us,
OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY TOUR:
To collect and observe with identify the flora and fauna of Keibul Lamjao National Park.
To study the environment of the National Park
To observe the habitat of the collected species.
To take photograph of the collected species for documentation and
Collection of species for both dry and wet preservation.
wayne. TOUR REPORT
It was a bright sunny morning of 24" November 2018 Saturday. We arrived at
Department of Zoology, C. I. College, Bishnupur, Manipur at about 7 am. Then our teachers
instructed us to assemble in the front of Zoology Department, There are 55 students and three
teacher- guide one non teaching staffs altogether 46 in numbers. During the assembly we ere
instructed about the journey does and don’t and the purpose of the trip etc. The we are instructed
to proceed toward the hired bus MNO1-224, Express
We reached the gate of the spot at around 9 am.. Then we talk to the gate keeper
and show the reliable documents who in turn submit the same to officer. The officer gives
the information which was really very helpful to us during our study tour. He also
provides us a waiting shed inside the park. There we took our breakfast at around 10am,
After breakfast we start our survey. We are doing different activities according to our
group. Some of us are collecting aquatic insect and some are collecting the land animals
while some are taking photographs of different available animals as well as the beautiful
landscape. The first half collection is over around 12.30 pm. Then we have our lunch
around Ipm which is prepared by the non teaching staff. After lunch we continue the
second part of our collection outside the park around Keibul particularly at the market
and also interact with the local people to know the locally available diversity of animal in
the environment of the Keibul village.DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY

Walkint heCONCLUSION
Our study tour was quite interesting and the importance of such type of study tour in
natural science, particularly in Zoology is realized only when we were led to the spot where we
can observed the existence of animal in their natural habitat. The value of natural environment is
realized only when we collect the first hand information directly from the field, After this tour
the correlation of the theoretical knowledge and the field knowledge became clear.
An unforgettable memory of the study tour is still in mind as it gives me a sense of
collective responsibility in organizing an event particularly in collection of specimen and data on
natural science laboratory,
‘After participate the tour it arouses me to for the love of nature. In fact it gives me a
chance to become a scientist an environmentalist, a bird watcher or an ecologist.
Such study tour particularly this tour inspire me to work voluntarily for the conservation
of our environment I am also greatly motivated by the work of the A TREE and I will find out
their official website by visiting GOOGLE. I wish to join the organization and I shall upload my
photographs of the collected specimens to their website so that I can inform the availability of
different FLORA or FAUNA of our state Manipur to the WORLD.
Once again, I express my gratefulness to all the staff of Zoology department and all
‘concemed who have made the study tour a complete success
