DTC B1187/55 Short in P Squib (2Nd Step) Circuit (To Ground)

The document provides diagnostic steps for troubleshooting a DTC B1187/55 short in the P squib (2nd step) circuit in a supplemental restraint system. The diagnostic procedure involves: 1. Checking the P squib circuit between the airbag sensor assembly center and instrument panel passenger airbag assembly for a short to ground. 2. Checking the airbag sensor assembly center by connecting the P squib circuit and clearing/checking for the DTC. 3. Checking the P squib by connecting the instrument panel passenger airbag assembly and clearing/checking for the DTC. 4. Using a simulation method to further check if needed.

DTC B1187/55 SHORT IN P SQUIB (2ND STEP) CIRCUIT

(TO GROUND)

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The P squib (2nd step) circuit consists of the airbag sensor assy center and instrument panel passenger
airbag assy.
It causes the SRS to deploy when the SRS deployment conditions are satisfied.
DTC B1187/55 is recorded when ground short is detected in the P squib (2nd step) circuit.
DTC No. DTC Detecting Condition Trouble Area
Short circuit in P squib (2nd step) wire harness (to ground) Instrument panel passenger airbag assy (P squib, 2nd step)
B1187/55 P squib malfunction Airbag sensor assy center
Airbag sensor assy center malfunction Instrument panel wire
