A. Complete the following exercise with a / an / the or x.

Once upon a time, there was a green and beautiful planet. It was the third planted out

from a yellowish sun in a stellar system in a relatively remote part of the galaxy.

Members of the Galactic Council knew that the planet was between 4 and 5 billion years old,

but no one was sure exactly how long life had existed there.

the Galactic Council had been watching Green, as they called it, for millennia. It was a

responsibility of the Council to observe and monitor all planets that harbored life in an effort to

predict which ones might destroy themselves. Thus the Council could intervene if it had to. Each

planet had its own watcher, and Planet Green's was Ambassador Gorkon. His job was to visit Green

and investigate thoroughly. On this occasion Gorkon was making his report to Mr. Xau, the

president of the Galactic Council.

B. Complete the article about Chernobyl Damage by inserting a / an / the or x.

CHERNOBYL DAMAGE

On April 26, 1986, x fires and explosions following an unauthorized experiment caused

the worst accident in the history of nuclear power at the nuclear power plant in Chernobyl,

Ukraine. At least thirty-one people were killed in the disaster itself, and x radioactive material

was released into the atmosphere. Approximately 135,000 people were evacuated from the vicinity.
