Just because Paver Blocks are extremely versatile and come in a lot of variety. and are economical. Thus
using them in roads in very much recommended.
Lets check few scenarios where paver blocks are useful in road construction.
1. When there are under ground utility lines below road which need frequent repairs/ maintenance.
Here you need to remove all wearing course and base, sub base to reach the utility lines, and want
it done fast so that road is again available in original shape for users.
2. Unstable/ Sinking base: There are certain area where the soil below road is not stable and sinks
every few months or gets liquid thus creating cracks/ bumps on surface of concrete/ bituminous
wearing coat. Pavers in this situation is ideal as they can be lifted up depending upon the extent
of sinkage by just lifting and placing required amount of sand below them. Thus in matter of
hours a small team of 4–5 workmen can make a paver block road perfectly smooth without need
of any heavy machinery/ plant etc. only raw material used is sand/ crusher dust.
3. Patchwork: Paver blocks are very good option when it comes to do road repairs for patches/ pot
holes. The pavers are available in all strength capacities. Those used in fuel pumps can easily
bear load of lorries weighing 100 tons. Moreover it is very easy to place and maintain pavers in
pot holes because of small modular shapes.
4. Temporary roads: In certain cases the road is required for s very small time period, maybe for
some camp, or festival or anything similar. In such cases it is desired not to spend much on
making road as it would be useless after specific short term purpose. Also the temporary road
work should be done fast. It is a further pleasure that the road paving course can be used

elsewhere once its purpose is solved at current location. The paving blocks are not fixed
permanently rather are interlocked and can be re used very easily.
5. Interlocking paver blocks are better than the concrete or bituminous paved road surfaces for
environment as they allow rain water to percolate through thus re charging the precious ground
water form rain and flowing water which would otherwise cause erosion and flooding.

Interlocking Concrete Block Pavement (ICBP) has been extensively used in a number of countries for quite
sometime as a specialized problem-solving technique for providing pavement in areas where conventional
types of construction are less durable due to many operational and environmental constraints. ICBP
technology has been introduced in India in construction, a decade ago, for specific requirement viz.
footpaths, parking areas etc. but now being adopted extensively in different uses where the conventional
construction of pavement using hot bituminous mix or cement concrete technology is not feasible or
desirable. The paper dwells upon material, construction and laying of concrete block pavement as a new
approach in construction of pavement using Interlocking Concrete Paver Blocks.

I'm not sure, but when these were introduced as part of a test, especially near signals, some
excuses/reasons given were that: * These would withstand more load * Better performance in extreme
weather conditions * Easy to replace in case of breakage (as compared to relaying roads after monsoons…

The cost of construction of road typically depends on lot of factors. Here are the of main factors that drive
the cost: 1.Type of Road : There are generally 2 types of pavements 1. Flexible pavement (Bituminous
pavement) 2. Rigid Pavement (Concrete road) 2. Width of the road or Number of Lanes: Usuall Read More

SDBM Semi Dense Bitumen Macadam. A continuously graded material of a relatively low binder content
(100 penetration). It has less resistance to fatigue cracking than other materials. DBM50 is DBM with a 50
penetration binder. It is marginally inferior to HDM but is superior to ordinary DBM. PMC means Read More
The answer can be very simple or very complicated. I will give you the simple answer. I will skip the design
process where the alignment and grade are determined. Alignment and grade refer to the horizontal and
