SUMMERIZED NOTE

 By 1900, the estimated population of Ethiopia was only 11.8 million. Since then, it
has grown at a rapid rate. At the current rate, the country population is projected to
grow by 1.9 million people annually; fertility and mortality are the main factors in
population growth rate. Migration has very little effect because most of the population
has low mobility across international boundaries.
 The annual growth rate of Ethiopia population is 2.7%.
 The current population of Ethiopia is 115,606,131 as Friday, September 25, 2020,
based on Worldometer elaboration of the latest UN data.
 Fertility in Ethiopia is the highest in OROMIA and SNNPR.
 Mortality is higher in the rural areas.
 The proportion of children below the age of 15 in 2020 was 41.5%, 55.8% was
between 15 and 65 years of age, while 3.3% was 65 years or older.
 The current life expectancy for Ethiopia in 2020 is 66.71 years,
 Interims of sex composition males are higher in rural areas and females are higher in
urban areas.

 The pattern of Ethiopia population distribution is markedly uneven.


 The most densely populated areas in Ethiopia are GEDEO, KEMBATA TEMBARO,
SIDAMA, WOLAYTA, HADIYA, GURAGE, WEST ARSI,EAST SHEWA,
JIMMA, EAST HARARGE
 The most sparsely populated areas in Ethiopia are AGNEWAK, METEKEL,
KEMASHI, AFAR ZONE 1, ETANG SPECIAL ZONE, AFAR ZONE 2, ASSOSA,
WARDER, KORAHE, FIK
 The spatial distribution of Ethiopia population is uneven, characterized by high
population density on the highlands while lowlands have very low population density.
 There are two main types of population these are pro-natalist and anti-natalist
population policies. Ethiopia population policy main goal is to achieve a balanced
population growth rate. It was launched in 1993 and is essentially anti -natalist.
