230 - Turbidity Test and Alum Jar Test PDF

The document reports on a test to determine the optimum dose of alum needed to treat a water sample. It shows that initial turbidity was 54.1 NTU. Alum doses from 10 to 50 mg/l were tested, with the lowest turbidity of 3.8 NTU achieved at a dose of 20 mg/l. A graphical representation identifies the optimum dose as 23.8 mg/l, able to reduce turbidity to below the target of 2.57 NTU.

DATA SHEET

DETERMINATION OF TURBIDITY

Date Tested : 28 / 08 / 2020

Tested By : Mr. Omkar Badade

Project Name : Virtual Lab

Sample Number : 1, 2
Sample Location : NA
Sample Description : Water Sample

OBSERVATIONS
Sr. No. Description of Sample Turbidity
1 Water Sample 41.6 NTU
2 Water Sample 0.02 NTU

INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS
The turbidity of Water sample 1 = 41.6 NTU

The turbidity of water sample 2 = 0.02 NTU

INFERENCE
Acceptable limit for turbidity in water is below 1NTU. Since the water sample 1 taken has
turbidity= 41.6 NTU which is greater than the acceptable limit, so it is not suitable for drinking.
The water sample 2 taken has turbidity= 0.02 NTU which is lesser than the acceptable limit,
so it is suitable for drinking.
