FIRE and SMOKE DAMPERS Fire Dampers manufactured by Osborne Metal Industries (NSW) Ply. Lid. are constructed and tested in accordance with Australian Standard AS1682-1979, ‘They are available in four basic types. namely Round Pivot Type. Rectangular Pivot Type, Rectangular Louvre Type and Shutter Type. The following patented hardware ar- rangements allow radical improvements to be incorporated in this product thus assuring a lifetime of service with a minimum of costly maintenance. 1. Linkage Pivot Pins are made of stain- less steel thus preventing any risk of seizure through rust over any period of tire. 2. Set Screws are cup pointed, case hardened to eliminate any risk of slip. 3. Bearing Saddle is formed so that the end of the oilite bronze bush projects Past the end of the blade thus producing a thrust end and eliminating the risk of interference between the blade and frame. 4. Shatt is manufactured from stainless steel and is so formed as to provide for angular misalignment of up to four degrees and still maintain. minimum tolerance between shatt and bearing DESCRIPTION Fire dampers manufactured by M. & E. are constructed and tested in accordance with Australian Standard A30-1958 for various fire ratings and meet the requirements of Government Departments, Semi-Government Departments, Fire Control Authorities, Fire and Accident Underwriters and Local Councils throughout the British Commonwealth. They sre available in three basic types, as shown on the following pages, namely Round Pivot Type, Rectangular Pivot Type and Rectangular Louvre Type. Fire dampers. shall be installed where shown on drawings and wherever required to meet local regulations as down by any authority having jurisdiction over the said works. They shall be constructed and tested in accordance with Australian Standard A30-1958, Section four, and any subsequent amendments, for a fire rating equivalent to the surrounding construction, and shall be installed in strict accordance with the manuracturer’s recommendations and in compliance with acceptance certificates furnished by the manufacturer. ‘The Damper Blades shall have self aligning stainless steo! shafts and shall pivot in oilite bronze bearings. Any inter-connecting linkages required for louvre type dampers shall pivot on stainless steel pins and dampers shall be held open by one or more fusible inks which shall fuse at 68°C Access doors where required shall be provided to each 1 damper for replacement of fusible links, resetting of dampers and for periodical inspection of the fire damper. SPECIAL FRAME ARRANGEMENTS ‘The drawings in this catalogue show the Standard Fire Damper frame arrangements but should ‘any project require special consideration, trained personnel are at your disposal. INSTALLATION ‘The problems involved when stalling fire dampers are usually numerous but not so with the M. & E. product. Dampers are supplied complete with fusible links fitted and with matching angle flange surrounds all pre- punched with slotted holes to allow for general building tolerances. Study of the detail installation sketches will show the obvious s 198 in erection time that will result in the use of this product. ORDERING INSTRUCTIONS When ordering nominate the following:- 1. Opening size should be Nominal Width plus 1/8” expansion gap for each full foot of width by Nominal Height plus 1/8” full foot of height. xxpansion gap for each Example: Determine opening size for 42" wide X 30° high damper. th of opening —= 42" + 3 X 1/8" — 42-3/ Height of opening — 30” + 2 X 1/8” — 30—1/4" minimum STEP 2 Check given wall thickness and should wall be slightly under given thickness assemble first sot of flanges as shown on sketch below. If wall is over given thickness assemble flanges with slot on the opposite side of bolts. NoT! = Do not fully tighten bolts. CAUTION: Bolt heads must be on it STEP 3 Fix duct spigot and tighten firsf set of flanges, (See sketch above). sve 4 Insert fire damper and spigot into prepared opening. NOTE: STEP 6 Fit second set of flanges. NOTE:- Do not tighten. STEP_6 Fit second duct spigot and tighten flanges. CAUTION: Do not fix damper to wall or partition. STEP_7 Open Fire Damper, reset spring catch and test operate. STEP_8 Re-open fire damper and reset spring catch to its position prior to operating. CAUTION: Overbending of the spring catch could prevent the damper from closing, STEP_9 Fix damper in open position with fusible link. NOTE:- On small dampers steps 7 to 9 should be done prior to step 3.
