COURSE DESCRIPTION: The primary content emphasis for this course pertains to the study of U.S. history from
Reconstruction to the present day. Students will be exposed to the historical, geographic, political, economic, and
sociological events which have influenced the development of the U.S. and the resulting impact on world history.
CONTENT: During the course of the year we will cover the following periods: Civil War, Reconstruction and Westward
Expansion, 2nd Industrial Revolution, Immigration, Progressives, Imperialism and World War I, Roaring 20s, Great
Depression and New Deal, World War II, Cold War, Civil Rights, Modern America
ATTENDANCE: It is very important that students make every possible attempt to be in class, on time, and prepared!
Students are required to pass this course as a graduation requirement.
REQUIRED MATERIALS:
1. Spiral Notebook (college ruled) 2. Three-ring binder 3. Writing utensils & highlighters
CLASSROOM RULES: Classroom behavior will be governed by the following policies. These are intended as
guidelines to help build a sense of community and cooperation within the classroom.
1. BE RESPECTFUL: Disrespectful language or hurtful comments will not be allowed!
2. BE RESPONSIBLE: Participate in class discussions. Make sure you are listening when others are speaking.
3. BE PREPARED: Have your binder, notebook, writing utensils, and homework with you in class every day.
Please make sure to be in your seat and quiet when the bell rings, class will start right after.
4. BE POSTIVE: Please come to class with a bright, positive, and ready to learn attitude!
5. BE SAFE: Follow all the guidelines and keep those masks on!
CLASSROOM POLICIES:
1. Cell phone policy: You are NOT allowed to have a cell phone during class. All cell phones must be turned off
and left in your backpack.
2. If you are absent on a test day, you must make an appointment with me to make it up AFTER school within
one week of your absence. There will be a zero in the gradebook until you make it up.
3. When you are absent, you are responsible for finding the required make-up work. You may get the class
notes from another student, my website or see me before class. I will NOT be available to give you the
necessary make up work during the regular class time.
