The MVW
As I prepared to watch last week’s Super Bowl game
between the Pittsburg Steelers and the Green Bay Packers,
I felt some ambivalence. I once baptized a lineman from
the old Pittsburg Steel Curtain days in the 70’s but currently
have a lack of respect for their quarterback and his off-the-
field antics. I hear that Christians play for both teams. Even
though Aaron Rodgers, the Quarterback of the Pack won
the Most Valuable Player award for the game, he also gets my MVW award
– Most Valuable Witness.

He is a “leader of God’s pack” because of his witness and faith in Christ.

He said, “We all have a platform; we all have a message in our lives. I just
try to follow Jesus’ example, leading by example.” As kicker Mason Crosby
noted, “Aaron has a great relationship with the Lord. He is the face of the
franchise and helps to see that he is living a message all of the time.” As a
believer, Mason says about the difficulties of sometimes missing key field
goals, “Kicking is what I do, not who I am. I can escape knowing that my
relationship with Christ is what carries me.”

Rodgers has demonstrated perseverance through his six years with the
team. He stood on the sidelines for three seasons while famous quarterback
Brett Favre went through his yearly maybe-I-will-or-maybe-I-won’t retire
routine. Aaron said: “God always has a plan for us. Sometimes we wish we
could get it sooner, but He always shows up His way.”

Rodgers thanks God for his strong Christian family and the example of his
parents, Ed & Darla. He also has long-time accountability partners, pastor
Burchett from California and one Young Life leader, Matt Hock. They
actually texted him on game day and even sent a photo of his Young Life
group decked out in Packers gear.

Other Packers have been blessed by Rodgers’ example. Defensive end, C.J.
Wilson, is a Christian and said about his signal caller, “I’ve been blessed to
be around him and see how God makes all things possible in our lives.”
Wideout, Greg Jennings, also noted that he is determined to live for God,
“I just want to let people know what it is all about. To whom much is given,
much is required, and I am required to have a voice for God. All glory goes
to God. That is where it starts and that is where it finishes.” His pastor dad
would certainly say “Amen”, as would all of us. While believers may be
“most valuable”, He is the most worthy and Most High God (Hebrews 7:1).

Guest Reception
There is a guest reception in the Commons immediately following the
Saturday night and Sunday morning 11:00 a.m. service. Come and meet
Dr. Wicker.
ESTATE PLANNING
What People Like You Are Asking...
• What is the difference between a Will and a Revocable Living
Trust?
• What are some of my options for structuring my children’s
inheritance so it will be more apt to help rather than harm
them?
• My children are in different places spiritually and financially.
How can I treat them all fairly?
• How do people decide how much to leave to charity?
• What should I keep in mind in naming a guardian?

The Answer...

Our friends at PhilanthroCorp are here to help you navigate what

can be confusing waters. We have retained them so they can
serve you, at no cost, as our thanks to you for your stand with our
mission. In creating a custom-built plan for you, PhilanthroCorp
will help make estate planning not just a pleasant experience
for you, but one with eternal significance as well. Simply call
1-800-876-7958 and they would be happy to assist you. You can
also learn more online by visiting: www.fbcnlegacy.org/epo. The
Estate Plan Organizer will take you through the estate planning
process quickly and easily in about 30 minutes.

plan may be the single most important act of stewardship of
your lifetime.” Don’t miss this incredible opportunity.

God’s Challenge...
Put my Word into practice!
His Word instructs us in James 1:27 to
“Look after orphans.”
Do you know we have a Florida Baptist Children’s Home in our
area? Up to 10 children are being cared for in Ft. Myers at a home
built in 1992 by our own Charles Blankenship and countless other
First Baptist Church Naples members.

As with any home approaching twenty years old, redecorating is

needed. The Les Dickson Bible and Life Group is asking you to join
with them to update the children’s bedrooms. The goal is to paint,
replace carpet, purchase new furniture, and retile the bathrooms.

Would you consider joining us in this local mission project? We

need materials, furniture, and workers. And yes...we also need
money if you can help with that. Checks can be written to FBCN
with “FB Children’s Home” on the memo line. For more information,
contact Phil & Nancy Gardanier at 304-9039.

These are precious children who have been neglected, abused,

and/or abandoned. The safety of this Christian home is the only
family most of them have known, and may be the only place they
have found love in a home. Look through the eyes of Christ to see
His compassion and then be God’s hands and feet to meet the
challenge He has set before us.
