I feel the extraordinary privilege for giving me the opportunity to work in this term
paper on “online class experience”.

Firstly, I want to thank Almighty God for everything. With the help of Almighty and parents’
blessings finally I have successfully completed the individual term paper of the course.

I am very grateful to Dr. Ummaha Hazra my instructor for her continuous support, advice and
proper guidance, without which my paper work would not be possible.

Last but not the least; I am grateful to NorthSouth University to creating this online classroom
platform to complete successfully this course in this pandemic situation.

If I specifically say about this course then I really enjoyed this online course. I thought it was
well planned and laid out, easy for me to follow. The class task load was just enough, so I could
finish everything with enough time, learn about the topics and not feel over loaded and rushed.

Overall I really like this class because all lectures, assignments, and tests are straight forward. To
be honest, it was my first full online class course. I think the course outline/power point is
extremely helpful.

Now if I compare the whole online course offer by the NSU then some challenge we have faced
that IT support problem, sometime the class is already started but student unable to log in the
Google class room due to access denied messaged showing without reason. So, NSU take a good
decision to enable class recording system, if someone missed the class due to internet problem or
family urgency then he/she can watch this recorded classes as their free time.

Then some teachers do not familiar with the platform, how to take the assignment or quiz they
don’t know specifically senior teacher. Some students do not familiar with the platform, they
also face some problem when they are going to submit assignment or quiz within due date.

Students coming to campus and attending class in physical classrooms is the traditional way to
attend the classroom. Being still the most dominant form of pursuing an education due to
university allows students to interact with one another and discuss with teachers face-to-face.
Face to face learning is a really effective way to learn knowledge and skills because it often
combines different ways of learning including writing, reading, discussion, presentations,
projects, group work and practice. Probably this is what keeps this form of traditional learning
still so much in demand, as students can communicate with others or ask questions personally to
the lecturer. We feel more responsible regarding our exams, towards every deadline that comes
our way and commit to regular attendance

Online class is known as the modern education system that takes place over the Internet. Often it
is referred to as eLearning. University nowadays uses Google Classroom or similar kind of
software as a replacement for traditional class’s room. This excellent learning methodology
comes along with convenience, greater flexibility, and greater accessibility. Lessons can be
completed around our schedule without leaving home or having to relocate depending on the
environment.

Advantages and disadvantages of online class:

Online learning can help me flourish. The best online learning combines elements in which I can
go at my own pace and are set-up to think deeply and critically about subject matter with other
elements. I can have more control over their learning process in an online learning environment.
Some advantages given below:
 I can study in the comfort of my own home, or wherever I want
 It costs saving – no need to travel for classes.
 I will avoid being late to class.
 Have access to the course 24/7 by using recording system.
 Able to build up my skills interacting with new technology.

Learning outcomes from remote classes may not be the same as in-person classes. It’s important
to realize that learning online is not as simple as uploading and delivering content but rather the
active engagement with the students have with that content, with the faculty, and with one
another. Other major concerns during the pandemic have been lack of access to equipment and
the internet. Students without reliable, fast internet or suitable devices for online class or to
participation class room activities.

Some disadvantages given below:

 If I am at home then I will unable to concentrate harder on my learning because there’ll

be more distraction.
 Deprived from greater understanding, stories and real-world examples from teachers and
other students.
 Limited of opportunity to connect with, problem-solve, and network with other students.

Live online class:

A live class is an instructor led learning model wherein a teacher has the control of a class.
Teachers drive the learning objective and even set the pace of learning. This learning model
allows two-way communication.

Some Advantages of Live Online Class:

 A student can watch or listen to a teacher, interact and even ask questions.
 A student can also ask doubts in real time.
 Students also learn when their classmate asks a question or a doubt.
 There is more time left for hobbies or for finding a job.

Some Disadvantages of Live Online Class:

 Class dates may conflict with my personal schedule.

 Class may be too slow or too fast for you.
 Have a chance to miss the classes due to internet or electricity interruption.
 Unable to understand lecture due to too much participation and ask the question that
interruption class fluency.

Recorded online class:

It is a self-paced learning model wherein the learner has the control that is control over when to
study, how much to study and the pace of study. This learning model allows one-way
communication. Learners should be highly motivated and they should have a personal drive
towards their goal. So, it is ideal for adult learners who are self-driven.

Some Advantages of Recorded Online Class:

 There is no chance to miss the class lecture due to internet or electricity interruption.
 The opportunity to repeatedly review presented lecture.
 It can provide flexibility in terms of timing.
 Take class in my off hours, late at night, or whenever works for me.
 I will avoid being late to class.

Some Disadvantages of Recorded Online Class:

 Communication with the teacher is often limited

 Cannot ask questions or get clarification on lecture in real time.
 May be hard to find practice partners.
 It’s harder to form a student group online.

Online class is good news, but at its initial stage it poses certain challenge to students. Like
technical problem (hardware and software), financial problems, family related issue etc. Poor or
no internet connection and high-cost mobile data remain the major obstacles for a good number
of university students from rural and remote areas.

Hardware and software support must have students who are able to access the online class
environment. This is a significant issue in rural and lower socioeconomic neighborhoods. Many
students cannot effort with the high bandwidth or the strong internet connection that online
courses require, and thus fail to catch up with their virtual connection. Lack of computer literacy
is a major issue among students today. Many of them cannot operate basic programs such as
Microsoft Word and PowerPoint and therefore are not able to handle their files and seek help in
Learning Resource Centers for technical assistance.

Severe connectivity problems were encountered during the class, including distortion or loss of
audio and intermittent internet connection. Speech was sometimes unclear, which caused
communication problems. When everything is running smoothly, however, breakdowns can
occur at any point along the system. For example, the server which hosts the program could
crash and cut all participants off from the class.

For attending the online classes, we need a good environment in home to attention the classes.
But it is too challenge for students as well as family member to create a good environment to live
together with the family member. High-cost mobile data is another challenge to the family to
effort due to broadband line unavailable from rural and remote areas.

Girl faces more trouble than boy as a student to attending online class. Generally, girl needs to
do more household activity when they stay home with her family. For this reason, sometimes
they join late at class or missed the class due to family dependency.

Attitude modifies and technological literacy would help them gain confidence in order to
succeed in online courses with a positive vibe.

Online class has a definite challenge for educational institution as well as students about a
successful adaption of technical systems and environment. Effectiveness of e-learning systems is
a matter of debate in institution and students about course content and instructional design
perspective, student / teacher perspective or delivery medium and technology perspective.

So, a university can be considered as a socio-technical system to resolve the problem and
increasing flexibility and adaption.

A socio-technical system (STS) is one that considers requirements across hardware, software,
personal, and community aspects. It applies an understanding of the social structures, roles and
rights to inform the design of systems that involve communities of people and technology.

We can analyze the online learning systems using the socio-technical systems approach, which
treats a work system to be made up of two jointly independent, but correlative interacting
systems - the social and the technical.

The technical system is concerned with the processes, tasks, and technology needed to transform
inputs to outputs. The social system is concerned with the attributes of people such as attitudes,

skills, and values, the relationships among people, reward systems, and authority structures.
Outputs of the work system are the result of joint interactions between these two systems.

The usage of information technology for teaching and learning not only supports these activities
but also influences and forms their characteristics.

A university can be ensured appropriate organizational procedures, training opportunities and

technical means have to ensure that innovative solutions for teaching and learning are deployed
to all these sub-units and that the process of innovation becomes continuous and sustainable.

Online class is a great alternative to traditional class, especially for people who can’t afford the
time. Quality learning is the goal for any online education program. This quality must be
equivalent to the quality delivered via on-ground courses and programs in any institution of
higher education. Quality of online class success can be defined as the extent of learning
experienced by students. Quality online learning elaborates an effective, practical, and sensible
structure and organization for development of courses and programs. It includes an ease of use
and access to just in time support by both instructors and learners.

I am really enjoyed the online course. I thought it is well planned and laid out, easy for me to
follow. To be honest, this is my first full online class. Overall I really like this class because all
lectures, assignments, and tests are straight forward. I really liked the flexibility of this course. It
worked well with busy scheduling, and the expectations were clear and upfront.

My expectation was before starting online classes:

 Online class delivers a mix of quizzes, essays, assignments and group discussions
depends on course.
 May work together with other students in groups.
 Participate in peer review in any class topic.
 Able to upload my assignments directly into instructor.
 Flexible consulting hours with the instructor.

The reality of online classes:

I have found similar in some points with my expectation like flexible consulting hours with the
instructor, able to upload my assignments directly into instructor and flexible class environment.

But some aspects disappointing me like we have limited group discussions with the classmates,
limited interaction with the course instructor, work together with other students in groups, team
bonding and limitation on participate in peer review in any class topic.

Answer to the question no.: 06

Online class exam, also known as e-examination, enables examiners to conduct examinations
through the internet for remote student. Or given assignments as a set of question under specified
chapter for submission within certain time, it is also call open book exam.

I had six online exams in total. Four exams were question-based, where the titles were released
on a certain time and we were given 2 or 3 hours to write the questions answer. Two exams were
assignment based in certain topic for submission within a certain period like one week time. I
also give some quiz in some courses like multiple-choice exam for 15min or 20 min time.

I feel nervous that would I submit the answer paper within certain time? This was something I
found quite difficult. I’m going to be sitting at home, surrounded by the entirety was not like an
exam hall, concentration was breaking frequently. It was quite challenging environment.

My expectation before I started the online class exam:

 My exam will be finished with a flourish and fanfare.

 I could revise long before exams.
 Will be get enough for given exam.
 Flexible and stress free exam environment

The reality of online class exam:

We have faced a stress as timely submission due to submission also depends on electricity and
internet availability. Exam question was more complicated than in class exam. Sometimes marks
down due to communication gap between student and instructor. No way to evaluate class
performance of participants.

Advantages of Online exam:

 Get sufficient time to done your exam (Depends on exam pattern like you get one week
for submission).
 Flexible exam environment. Exams can be conducted anywhere.
 Reduced examination Cost
 Quick result Processing. It saves time.

Disadvantages of Online exam:

 Create Unnecessary Stress to submit on time (Depends on exam pattern like you get only
two hours for given exam).
 Online exam system is a little bit more susceptible for fraud
 Student can use external source for exam

Answer to the question no.: 07

Teachers’ consultation in online platform practices to offer online consultations to their students.
This allows students to submit their problem or query about related course in desired
appointment time. Teachers’ consultation time in online platform is more flexible and less time
consuming than face-to-face consultations by physical present. Whenever you face
difficult to understand something then you can raise to instructor without any delay. Moreover it
assist to student that you do not need to wait for consulting hours which is practices in class time
when varsity was open. Instructor also feels comfortable to share his/her consultation time in
online platform whenever free instead of following mandatory fixed hours for consultation time.

There is no binding time frame for consulting hour. You can meet with instructor from anywhere
as your preferable time.

My expectation before I started the class in case of teachers’ consultation time in online
platform:
 I will get enough time for consulting hour.
 I will contract preferable time for consultation.
 Seeking help when needed
 Preferences for student participation if any query about class lecture.

The reality in case of teachers’ consultation time in online platform:

 Flexibility and ensuring accountability in case of teachers’ consultation time.

 Having technology on hand to allow me to participate in discussions whenever possible.
 Instructor is more concern to participate on time within consultation time in online
platform.
 If student or teacher cannot participate on time due to clash schedule then can easily
change schedule directly by taken permission.

Advantages of consultation through online platforms:

 Quick organizing of an online consultation in the shortest possible time.

 With an online consultation, you don’t need to travel for attendance in consultation room.
 Comfortable and Convenient consultation room through Google class.
 No risk of infections by Covid-19

Disadvantages of consultation through online platforms:

 If the student does not have good communication, instructor could not understand the real
problem and query.
 Face to face interaction will be missing.
 Consultation through online platforms is only successful for theoretical subject.

Even before the corona virus pandemic, the concept of traditional education has changed
radically within the last couple of years. During the pandemic, being physically present in a
classroom isn’t the only learning option anymore. Nowadays, we have access to a quality
education whenever and wherever we want, as long as we have access to a computer.

Many students are attracted to the flexibility of online class and combine their studies with work
or personal commitments. For others, distance learning is a less expensive alternative to
traditional campus-based class.

Many experts believe online learning is the future of education. As technology becomes more
widely available, an increasing number of students will gain access to the kind of knowledge that
can vastly improve their career prospects. Online class is about accessibility and inclusivity. It
removes the physical barriers that prevent many people from fulfilling academic or career
ambitions by allowing students to work from pretty much anywhere.

Undoubtedly, with the even wider spread of technology and deepening of the global mandate of
education for all, online education’s potential to become complementary – or in some cases
alternatives – to traditional education cannot be overlooked.

Online class creates plenty of opportunities, but there are some potential drawbacks which
students considering it need to consider. Firstly, the huge amount of choice is a real benefit for
students, but more choice also leads to a greater difference in the quality of teaching methods,
online resources, and student support. Offering online classes certainly helps students who would
otherwise not be able to attend in-room class sessions. However, they fail to provide a genuine
education with an emphasis on convenience rather than critical thinking. We need online classes
to restructure themselves so students can have a learning experience that will actually provide
quality education.

Instead of worrying whether or not online education can ever be as good as more traditional
formats, perhaps we should instead focus on how we can use it to deliver quality education for
people.

There will always be a place for traditional, classroom-based teaching method, but even these are
becoming increasingly more integrated with online learning. And while it's almost impossible to
predict what directions technology will take us in, online learning is set to become a major part
of learning institutions all around the world in future.
