INTRODUCTION OF INTERNSHIP TRAINING

An internship is on-the-job training for many professional jobs, similar to an apprenticeship, more

often taken up by college and university students during his undergraduate or master degree in their free

time to supplement their formal education and expose them to the world of work. Internships offer various

occasion to interns during internship programs to expand familiarity in their choose area of work , to find

out what they have an importance in an exacting in specific line of business, develop professional network

links, build interpersonal skill or get some credit points if it’s a “sandwich course” they are in.

Employers too benefit from an internship arrangement as it gives access to interns with some skills

to execute relevant tasks for the employer. Many interns end up with permanent service with the same

organisation in which they are interned. Their worth to the organisation may be greater than before by the

fact that they require modest or less training.

An internship may be compensated, non-compensated or some time to some extent paid. Paid

internships is usually the norm in fields like medical and health science, engineering, laws and politics,

business, graphic design accounting, banking and finance, information technology, media, journalisms,

hospitality and tourisms where as unpaid Internships are common.

during the academy year and full-time in the summer vacations. They usually last for six weeks to

two months, its tenure varies from organisation to organisation, it may be shortening or long based on the

organisation for which they intern.

An increasing presence of multinational companies, rapid economic growth,

globalization, individual’s aspirations, urbanization have all influenced the role and desirability of

internships.
Definitions of internship training

“According to Atkinson William internship is nothing but a stepping stone to work environment

to an entry level candidate who is looking for a job. Internship incorporates the experience of working in

the field of one’s choice at the time of completing ones education. So internship is definitely a part of the

education process or done over the summer holidays as vacation training. The student whose education was

up to now only restricted to a class room gets an opportunity to step into arena of work field with

professional atmosphere and work culture. Here student gains different job related skills like working

capabilities and soft skills etc. A student has an added benefit in the internship which is to develop

relations, references and connections with the people who are actually practicing managers. ”

Meaning of Internship training

Internship is a job-oriented process which aim to develop special skills related to the job. Through

internship process effort is made to increase practical skill with the theoretical knowledge which student

got in formal educational institute.

Under internship, business organization or technical institute and college or university jointly

impart training for students during his bachelor or master degree. The objective of such programme is to

strike a balance between theoretical and practical knowledge. Educational institute impart theoretical

knowledge to their students but for practical knowledge they are sent to business organization.

The period of internship varies depending upon the nature of the job, size of the organisation etc.

For instance, fresh engineering graduates or diploma holders are moved from workshop to workshop to

work with the seniors, before they are placed on a particular job. This period varies from six months to one

year.
An internship is an agreement between intern and the organization for a fixed period of time, where

interns agree to work for them and they agree to mentor and teach them many companies go on to hire their

successful intern’s for full time employment.

An internship is a pre-professional work experience that provides students, recent graduates, and

career changers with a chance to find out more about a certain career. For students, internships provide a

way to gain work experience, supplement academic classes and, in some cases, and may be earn college

credit points. Internships could be paid or unpaid. Even when it’s paid, remuneration is modest.

Internships usually go on for six to twelve weeks and are the time that coincides with the holidays.

to gain the relevant knowledge and skills required in the field as well as add weight to the resume.

Gaining relevant experience through internships would help making professional contacts, two of

the best things a student can do to prepare themselves for getting a job in their field after college.

At the beginning of the internship I formulated several learning goals, which I wanted to

achieve:

• to understand the functioning and working conditions of a non-governmental

organization;

• to see what is like to work in a professional environment;

• to see if this kind of work is a possibility for my future career;

• to use my gained skills and knowledge;

• to see what skills and knowledge I still need to work in a professional environment;

• to learn about the organizing of a research project (planning, preparation, permissions)

• to learn about research methodologies (field methods/methods to analyze data)

• to get fieldwork experience/collect data in an environment unknown for me;

• to get experience in working in another country/with persons from another culture;

• to enhance my communication skills;

• to build a network.

This internship report contains my activities that have contributed to achieve a number of my stated

goals. In the following chapter a description of the organization Faunagua and the activities is given. After

this a reflection on my functioning, the unexpected circumstances and the learning goals achieved during

the internship are described. Finally, I give a conclusion on the internship experience according to my

learning goals.

OBJECTIVES OF INTERNSHIP

The purpose of Industrial Training is to expose me to real work of environment experience and at

the same time, to gain the knowledge through hands on observation and job execution. From the industrial

training, I will develop skills in work ethics, communication, management and others. Moreover, this

practical training program allows students to relate theoretical knowledge with its application in the

manufacturing industry.

The objectives of internship training are:

• To provide me the opportunity to test their interest in a particular career before permanent

commitments are made.

• To develop skills in the application of theory to practical work situations.

• To develop skills and techniques directly applicable to their careers.

during their training.

An internship provides a variety of benefits for young workers who want to broaden their chances for

landing a job and jump-starting their careers. Internships give you a taste of what a profession is like, help

you build your resume and let you meet people who can help you in your career. Don’t be passive during an

internship and miss opportunities to expand your business background. Take advantage of the many benefits

of holding an internship

A Trial Run

One of the main objectives of an internship is to expose you to a particular job and a profession or

industry. While you might have an idea about what a job is like, you won’t know until I actually perform it

if it’s what you thought it was, if I have the training and skills to do it and if it’s something you like. For

example, you might think that advertising is a creative process that involves coming up with slogans and

fun campaigns. Taking an internship at an advertising agency would help i find that advertising includes

consumer demographic research, focus groups, knowledge of a client’s pricing and distribution strategies,

and media research and buying.

Resume Building

When i apply for jobs, the more experience and accomplishments i have, the more attractive you’ll

look to a potential employer. Just because me have an internship with a specific title or well-known

company doesn’t mean your internship will help me land a nice . Make an impact where i work by asking

for responsibility and looking for ways to achieve accomplishments. Be willing to work more hours than i

required and ask to work in different departments to expand my skill set. Don’t just fetch coffee, make

copies and sit in on meetings, even if that’s all it will take to finish my internship.
Network Contacts

Another benefit of an internship is developing business contacts. These people can help you find a

job later, act as references or help me with projects after you’re hired somewhere else. Meet the people who

have jobs you would like some day and ask them if you can take them to lunch. Ask them how they started

their careers, how they got to where they are now and if they have any suggestions for me to improve my

skills.

Potential Job

If I’m like my internship, you have the opportunity to excel and possibly land a job with the

company. Employers have an easier time hiring a person they know because they can get a feel for that

person’s work ethic, skills, creativity, ability to work with others and overall fit with a company.
