Our campus will be celebrating the Buwan ng Wika from August 1-25, 2018, with the theme,
“Filipino: Wika ng Saliksik”. The theme for this year regards the Filipino language as a medium
of creativity and promotion of national knowledge and progress. It also adheres to the goal of
promoting the usage of the Filipino language in different academic areas.

Buwan ng Wika
“Filipino: Wika ng Saliksik”
August 1-25, 2018

I. ACTIVITY: LARO NG LAHI


ORG. IN CHARGE: PASOA
DATE/ DAY: August 3, 2018/ Friday
TIME: 8am-5pm
MECHANICS:
AGAWAN NG PANYO
Participants: 10 players per organization
1 .Each team members will have an assigned number from 1 to 10.
2. Team members must stand on the opposite starting lines 10 meters away from the neutral area.
3. The team member who will not play will a hold a handkerchief. He/ She must stay on the neutral
area.
4. When a number is called, the player assigned to that number should get the handkerchief and
bring it to his/her team’s starting line without being tagged by the opposite team.
5. The player who manages to bring the handkerchief to his/her starting line without being tagged
by an opponent scores a point for his/her team.
6. However, if the player was tagged, the score will go to the opposing team.
7. Team players will be called randomly according to their numbers, but when the word
“PALENGKE” is shouted, all team members of the team will try to get the handkerchief.
8. The team who scores the most points on a set number of round wins.

BATUHAN NG BOLA
Participants: 10 players per organization
1. Opposing teams will toss a coin to determine who will be assigned as the defense and offense
team.
2. The offensive team will throw a ball to the defensive team, and the latter must dodge or catch the
ball.
3. Half of the members of the offensive team must stand on the starting line opposite to the
defensive team. The distance must be 10 meters away.
4. The defensive team members must scatter on the area between the two starting lines.
5. A player will be eliminated if he/she will be hit by the ball.
6. The game should only last for 5 minutes. The team will gain a score if they manage to retain their
members within the allotted time.
7. The team scoring the highest points will win the game.

PATINTERO
Participants: 10 players per organization
1. Opposing teams will toss a coin to determine who will be the PASSER and the LINE GUARDS.
The winning team in the toss coin will be the passers.
2. Each team will be given two minutes to score.
3. Once the time elapses, the line guards assume the positions of the passer, and vice-versa.
4. Passers must cross the lines from the starting point and back.

5. Four line guards are positioned on the vertical line and one on the horizontal line of the court.
Their feet should always be on the line.
6. Line guards tag the passer with powered hands.
7. If any of the passer is tagged, the line guard immediately assumes the position of passer even if the
2-minute limit has not elapsed.

System of Scoring:
From Entry Point From Exit Point First line - 1 pt. Fourth line - 2 pt.
Second line - 2 pts. Third line - 3 pts.
Third line - 2 pts. Second line - 3 pts.
Fourth line - 2 pts. First line - 5 pts.
(Home) The duration of the game is three innings and each inning is divided into halves.

TUG OF WAR
Participants: 10 players per organization
1. Team members of each team line up themselves on both ends of the rope.
2. Each team gets on either side of the rope and tries to pull the other team across the ground
marker.
3. When anybody from the opposing team got dragged and crossed the ground marker, the game is
over.
4. The team that gets pulled over the ground market losses.

LARO NG LAHI
Participants: 10 players per organization
1. Each team members will have an assigned number from 1 to 10.
2. The game will start after the whistle blow.
3. The first member will hold a flag and pass it to the next representative.
4. Each team needs to go through 3 obstacles, namely: Sack Race, Coconut Shell Relay and
Yarn obstacle course.
5. Each member needs to finish one obstacle before they can go to the next obstacle.
6. For the sack race: Participants will run using a sack, put both feet in and begin hopping toward the
finish line. Start the race on one end and have each person tag the next in the other line. Continue
until the team finishes.
7. For the coconut shell relay: Participants will run using a coconut shell, put both feet in and begin
running toward the finish line. Start the race on one end and have each person tag the next in the
other line. Continue until the team finishes.
8. For the yarn obstacle course: From the starting point, team member needs to twist, turn, climb and
crawl their way through the maze made of yarn. They must get the flag, return to the yarn obstacle
course then give it to the next team player. They are not allowed to touch the yarn, or else they
must repeat from the starting point.
9. Every station will have a timer. The team who will finish first the entire game will be the winner.

II. ACTIVITY: CALLIGRAPHY WRITING CONTEST


ORG. IN CHARGE: SCENE
DATE/ DAY: August 10, 2018/ Friday
TIME: 9am-11am
MECHANICS:
1. Each organization must have three participants for this event.
2. Each representative must compose a slogan reflecting the theme of this year’s Buwan ng Wika,
“Filipino: Wika ng Saliksik”.
3. The slogan must be written using the calligraphy style of writing and must only contain two to four
lines of phrases.
4. “Millenial” and/or “internet” words must be used in composing the message of the slogan.
Examples are lodi, werpa, etc.
5. All arts/ creative materials must be provided by the participants, but the bond paper will be given to
them.
6. Representatives are allowed to use any arts/ creative materials that they may like in accomplishing the
slogan.
7. Participants will be given two hours to finish the slogan.

The slogan pieces will be rated using the given rubric:

CONTENT -Message is clearly stated.


-Proper and appropriate choice of words.
-Words are written legibly.

CREATIVITY -Originality of the slogan’s message.


-Design and visuals are appropriate to the 30%

ACTIVITY: OBSTACLE RELAY RACE

DATE/ DAY: August 10, 2018/ Friday
TIME: 1pm-5pm
MECHANICS:
Participants: 3 players per organization

ILIYAD MO PA (First Station)


1. All team players must pass a limbo rack with four levels---from highest to lowest.
2. If a team player fails to pass a level, he/she may ask substitution from his/her team mates but the
substitute must start from the highest level.
3. When all the team players passed the four levels, they must pick one question about language. If they
are able to answer it correctly, they will proceed to the next challenge. However, if they fail to do so, they
may pick another question to answer.
4. For every challenge that they will finish, team players will be given a flag that corresponds to their
team color.

KALAGAN MO ‘KO! (Second Station)


1. Team members must untie the ropes intertwined in a game marshall.
2. After this, the game marshall will give them a question about Mathematics that they must answer. If
they answered it correctly, they will proceed to the third station.

IMUDMOD MO! (Third Station)


1. Each team player must pass through a maze of monoblock chairs to be able to get the question about
Mathematics.
2. Another member of the team will find the answer on a basin full of white flour. He/ She must dig
through the flour using only his/her mouth.
3. After successfully doing so, they may proceed to the fourth station.

KAPAIN MO! (Fourth Station)


1. Each team player must pass through a series of intertwined ropes to get to the table.
2. On the table is a covered box in which they must insert their hands to get the letter pieces. They must
get all the letter pieces to complete a certain word.
3. They may only proceed to the fifth station if they will complete the word.

NABUBULOL AKO TEH! (Fifth Station)


1. One team player must choose a certain number that corresponds to a Filipino tongue twister.
2. The team member must recite correctly the tongue twister for three times. After doing so, they may
proceed to the last station.

I-SHOOT MO NAMAN! (Sixth Station)


1. One team player must shoot the ball into a basketball ring for three times. After doing so, the last
question will be given to them to answer.

Reminders:
1. After finishing the six stations, the team players must return to the starting line.
2. The first team who will finish the six stations will be declared the winner.

ACTIVITY: LUMANG LUTUIN, BAGONG LASA (Cook Fest)


ORG. IN CHARGE: HM Society
DATE/ DAY: August 25, 2018/ Saturday
MECHANICS:
Participants: 2 representatives per organization
Attire: Complete Chef’s uniform: white polo shirt, black pants, apron, splasher shoes, and hairnet.

1. All contestants must arrive minutes before the event and sign in at the registration table.
2. The competition is a battle of culinary skills and strategies of the different course organization. They
must prepare two (2) a la carte dishes i.e., main course, and (2) desserts. The contestants may execute
any type of cuisine and its theme.
3. Two (2) plates for each dish will be prepared, one of which is displayed while the other one is served to
the judges for tasting. All the dishes shall be plated individually for competition purposes. Contestants
can bring their own plates.
4. A limited time of 90 minutes broken down into segments is allocated for the entire competition.
5. The participants shall bring their own ingredients for their recipes. They shall also provide their own
tools and kitchen utensils, just in case it will not be available in the kitchen laboratory.
6. As a twist, a main ingredient of Filipino leftover dish will be provided by the organizers. This will be
revealed to the participants two days before the competition proper. Participants are encouraged to
strategize based on the required main ingredient.
7. Accurate and clear recipes of the two dishes must be written in the Recipe Form and must be submitted
a day before the actual competition. The team who fails/ misses to submit a copy of the recipe will
receive a deduction of 5 points from the average score.
8. The participants must provide a Title Card which contains the title and the brief description of each of
the dishes on display. The title card, written in Filipino, must be placed on a white paper cut into ¼
index card size. This must be submitted together with the Recipe Form. A five (5) point deduction from
the average score shall be incurred for non-submission of the title card.
9. The participants will only be provided with two (2) gas burners.
10. Each team must provide at least three (3) plain white kitchen towels.
11. Before the competition starts, each working area will be checked by the committee to ensure that no
item not listed in the three (3) recipes have been brought in.
12. A team who brings in any cooked item will be disqualified. Additives are strictly prohibited.
13. All preparation and cooking of dishes including garnishes must be entirely made and crafted on-the-
spot.
14. Every team should have two plates for each dish. One for display and one for tasting. This will mean a
total of four (4) plates for each team.

CULTURAL DANCE

TIME: 8am-5pm
MECHANICS:
1. The dancers must interpret and give twist in any of the suggested skill dances:
• Tinikling
• Kalatong
• Sayaw sa Banko
• Oasioas
• Pandango sa Ilaw
• Binasuan
• Binoyogan

2. Each group shall be composed of a minimum of 15 dancers and a maximum of 30 dancers.


3. The number/dance should posses a mixed of folk dance (listed above), festival dance and a modern
dance.
4. The number should be atleast three to five (3-5) minutes Production. The time of the performance starts
with the first note of the music or the first movement, whichever comes first.
5. All expenses in joining the competition shall be shouldered by the participating groups
6. All competitors will be assigned numbers for the competition through drawing of lots.
7. Staging may be implemented but the authenticity of the dance step costume and music shall be
observed.
8. The following are strictly not allowed in the performance:
• Sets (e.g. Risers, backdrop, tables, etc.).
• Performance of dangerous choreography/routine
• Use of live animals
• Use of real fighting armor (e.g. sword, knife, guns, arrow, spears, etc.
• Use of any form of liquid (e.g. blood, oil, water, etc.)
• Use of fire, candles and any pyrotechnic materials.
• Use of confetti either drop or bomb.
• Breaking of glass, pots, etc.
• Audio visual presentation or screen projection
• Hand props may be used (e.g. stick, fan, ring, umbrella, etc.). Bamboo, wood, steel or plastic pole
may be used but must not be more than 3 meters long.
9. Costume must be appropriate to the concept of the dance. Nudity is strictly prohibited
10. The committee reserves the right to amend these guidelines or refuse any entry on any grounds with
proper advice to the parties concerned.
11. Failure to comply with any of the foregoing guidelines will result to disqualification
12. The decision of the judges is final and unappealable.

ACTIVITY: DIGITAL POSTER MAKING CONTEST

DATE/ DAY: August 17, 2018/Friday
MECHANICS:

Participants: Open to all interested students


Attire: Department Shirt

1. All contestants must arrive 30 minutes before the event and sign in at the registration table.
2. Designs can be in the form of graphics, written messages or both.
3. The design must emphasize the theme “Wikang Filipino, Wikang pananaliksik”
4. Design must be submitted in psd and jpeg format.
5 All contestants will be given 1 hour to complete their work.
6. The organizers will be the one who will provide pictures that are related to the theme and contestant
will choose the pictures he/she wants.
7. The student garner the 3 highest score will be declared as first, second and third place respectively.
8. The work will be judged according to the criteria of judging:

Originality (Refers to how innovative the design is, ideas not copied from any source) – 40%

Creativity (the way the design is used to present the message – 30%

Craftsmanship (The ability to display mastery of technical skills) -l5%

Relevance/Message Conveyed – 15%
