Describe the community service/professional activity/s you attended or participated with (be

specific about the purpose and your role):

I attended an ACLS certification program. This program is for medical professionals who

typically work in emergency medicine or intensive care units. The certification class discussed

different EKG rhythms, intubation, and also went over the cardiac arrest algorithm. The purpose

of the course is to educate on how to provide care for cardiac and pulmonary arrest situations.

My role will ultimately be to provide this care in the future when I am working as a registered

nurse.

Where was this held and what was was program/activity length?

This program was held at Eclipse CPR Training and it was 8 hours in length. This time frame

includes the preparation prior to attending the class and pre-test that requires a 70% or above,

before entering the course.

Discuss the value of this experience to you (be specific).

This experience was very valuable to me, not only was it something I have wanted to learn for

my own personal gain and experience, it will be a critical skill necessary for future job

opportunities, and it will also be valuable to have on my resume. Additionally, I hope to one day

work in the Medical ICU. This activity taught me about the medications to administer for various

rhythms and further strength my skills of EKG interpretation.

How would you continue to use this experience throughout your nursing career?
This will be utilized throughout the entirety of my nursing career. It is likely that there will be

instances where I will need to preform basic life support for a patient. Additionally, it is also

likely that there will be instances where a patient is undergoing cardiac arrest and knowing when

to preform cardioversion and what dosages of Epinephrine and Amiodarone to administer will be

critical.

Would you recommend this specific communnity/professional experience in the future; why or

why not? (Describe)

I would recommend this specific experience. The instructor was incredibly friendly, highly

educated, and experienced, and made the course interactive and enjoyable. Additionally, it

provided me with more confidence on how to handle and care for an individual who is

undergoing potentially life-threatening cardiovascular conditions.
