A Review On Numerical Analysis of RC Flat Slabs Exposed To Fire

This article reviews numerical studies conducted to analyze the mechanical and thermal behavior of reinforced concrete flat slabs exposed to fire. Finite element models are developed to simulate the performance of buildings subjected to fire. The models incorporate the mechanical and thermal properties of materials obtained from experiments to make the results more realistic. The analysis found that properties like slab width and thickness, temperature gradient, fire direction, exposure duration, and thermal restraint influence the vertical deflection, bending moment, and membrane force of flat slabs exposed to fire. The finite element results are validated by comparing to available experimental data. Numerical modeling can help estimate the structural behavior of flat slabs exposed to fire while saving time and cost compared to experiments.
