Edc Lab Project Report

This document summarizes a student project to create a sound reactive LED circuit. It includes a list of components used, a circuit diagram, an explanation of how the circuit was constructed, and descriptions of how the circuit works and was tested. When a loud clap or sound is detected by the electret condenser microphone, it converts the sound to voltage signals that are amplified by transistors to power an LED, causing it to glow in response to sound. Photos show the circuit not glowing without sound and glowing when sound is detected.

Construction

The positive terminal of 9 V battery is connected with junction of 4 resistors i.e 220 Ω, 100 kΩ x
2,10 kΩ. Another terminal of 220 Ω is connected with positive of LED and negative of LED is
connected with collector of 1st transistor and base of this transistor is connected with emitter of
2nd transistor and 2nd transistor’s base is connected with junction of 1 micro farad capacitor
(negative terminal) and 100kΩ resistor. The positive of capacitor is connected with junction of
10kΩ resistor and positive terminal of mic. Then the negative of battery is connected with
junction of emitter of both transistors and another terminal of negative terminal of mic.

Working principle

In this LED sound(clap) detector, electret condenser mic picks up the sound(clap) signals and
converts them into voltage levels. These voltage signals are further fed into R-C filter or HIGH
PASS filter (R and C) to eliminate the noise from the sound. Further, a transistor is used to
amplify the signals from the High Pass filter. Then, finally these clap signals are given to the
array of two transistors. Transistor in this array works as amplifier and glows the LED.

To test this circuit, we need to clap loudly as this small condenser mic don’t hav long range or
we can directly hit at the mic lightly.

Implementation of Sound Reactive LED

Fig (b)

In figure (b), No LED glows because there is no sound(clap) detected by mic.

Fig (c)

In figure (c), LED glows, when mic detects sound(clap) after giving 9 V supply.
