Data is the new Oil

Data is the new oil of the current era and the future to come. The exponential growth of data
witnessed around the globe since the dawn of the digital era is not expected to slow down
anytime soon. We have just scratched the surface and are oblivious to the fact that the
coming years will bring a flood of data with it. The flood of data will act as catalyst and speed
up the process of the growth in virtually all walks of life.

Internet of things (IoT)

The concept of IoT may seem fairly new to people in Pakistan nonetheless globally there are
7 billion IoT connected devices, and this figure is anticipated to surge to 21.5 billion in the
decade to come. More and more devices are coming online and with the refining hardware
their capability to deliver data will become diverse and richer. Globally industries such as
auto mobiles, airline, mining and health care would be the largest users and generators of IoT
data.

Social Media

Social media as we all know is one of the vast source of data. Everyday billions of users are
connected online share information regarding various issues. The data shared online is
enormous but at the same time valuable for the purpose of analysis and predictions. Using
Data Science models and algorithms it now possible to exactly predict the future regarding
people, countries, businesses and even threats lurking around the corner getting ready to
emerge.

Business and Apps

Emerging and ongoing businesses today are modernizing their approach towards their
customers and promotions. All successful businesses today use social media platform for their
promotions and customer feedback. The Huge Cash and carry and other grocery giants are
now using data science models to enhance their business. The customer data is used to
analyses the preferences, needs and most importantly allows them to stock and procure items
that maybe in demand in future. Other businesses and startups have moved towards app
development for their business so that customers can easily approach them and provide
feedback.
Health care

Data has also transformed the health industry and the way people will receive health care in
the future. In developed countries online doctors are available that take care of their patients’
medical needs. Data of patients across the globe will help predict any future outbreak of
disease and display a clear picture of the current state of health care at hand.

5G

Moving towards 5G will certainly revolutionize the platform to deliver dependable and
mountable connectivity to the world. As we all know that the journey from 2G to 4G has
been all about two features high data rate and low latency. 5G is based on these two features
that will allow faster real time data transfer for new applications that was not possible before.
Hence the concept of smart city will be possible that will ultimately transform our lives.
Smart city concept means that a lot sensors will placed everywhere. These sensors will
generate massive amounts of data that will need to communicated, analyzed and fed back to
the smart city infrastructure. When it comes to smart home IoT devices come into play that
include thermostats, security cameras, door locks and even connected kitchen appliances. An
example of smart city project is embedded parking spot sensors in Barcelona that connect to
an app that guides the drivers to the empty spots for car park.

Currently companies are preparing to adopt Data Science as an essential tools for business
growth. Soon major decisions will made by data science algorithms and tools based on
available data. Therefore Data is the new oil and its security and integrity will be under
threat in the future.
