Design and Implementation of Pure Square Wave Single Phase Inverter
Design and Implementation of Pure Square Wave Single Phase Inverter
Abstract: The aim of the paper is developing the control circuit for a single phase inverter which produces a pure square
wave with an output voltage that has the same magnitude. With the help of microcontroller and Arduino we can generate
a square waveform.
I.INTRODUCTION
Most of the power supplies are either square wave or sinusoidal wave inverter. The square wave generator is very
important in power electronics. By using SPWM technique we can generate pure square wave. It is mainly used in power
electronics applications such as motor driver, UPS and the renewable energy system. By using the microcontroller we can
replace the conventional method, it helps to generate the necessary pulse width modulation waveform. By using the
system ofPIC16f877A microcontroller provides the variable frequency pulse width modulation signal that controls the
applied voltage on the gate drive. One of the most important application of a H-bridge inverter is that it efficiently charges
the battery.
II.PROBLEM STATEMENT
The inverter is one of the power conversion device that is used for conversion of DC input voltage to AC output
voltage. The output voltage waveform of ideal inverter should be square but practically the waveform of the inverter
is not square wave and also it contains harmonics. Due to this harmonics, the electronics devices connected to the
inverter will get damaged. Such harmonics contains in the output of the inverter depend on the number of pulses per
cycle. Many researchers in this field has found that output single wave is distorted. The number of pulses per cycle
are also affected in switching the losses problem. High power losses will be contributed by the use of high switching
techniques in order to meet the following requirement, the following factors has to be considered:
Below figure shows the block diagram of the system. The range of the inverter circuit should be such that the
desired output voltage is 220V AC and frequency is 50Hz. The contents of the system are:
To obtain voltage of desired frequency and magnitude the full H-Bridge inverter circuit is used.
The square wave generator which is centered on zero voltage requires positive as well as negative voltage
across the load. This can be done from the single source by using H-Bridge inverter. Switches S1,S2,S3 and S4 are
arranged in standard H-Bridge circuit as shown in figure 2. The gating signal gs1 and gs3 are switch at one half
cycle simultaneously and the gate signals gs2 and gs4 will be switched simultaneously at the other cycle. The gs3
are leading the signals. The output of the circuit is periodic waveform is not sinusoidal. The required sinusoidal
PWM signals to driver and switch the H-Bridge MOSFET transistor are generated by PIC microcontroller.
IR2110 is a speed MOS-gated power device driver with high voltage. The driver device of the MOSFET
gate is based on two basic categories viz. high side and low side. Itcontains two different output channels i.e. high
side and low side. The gate driver circuit is shown in figure 3.
The operating input voltage ranges from 5V to 20V. The propagation delay time for higher side is
120ns which turns on delay and for low side is 94ns which turn-off delay.
In this section the design of hardware setup is shown. It contains a full H-bridge inverter and it
consists of 4 IR2110 MOSFETS. These MOSFETs performs fast switching in operation. These MOSFET
(switches) have very low resistance i.e. 44 m-ohm which results in less power dissipation and hence we get
higher efficiency.
This figure shows that proposed hardware setup of the implementation inverter circuit to obtain square
wave AC output voltage with a rated voltage magnitude of 202V AC and 50 Hz. These voltage and
frequency values are agreeing with the microcontroller PIC16F877A which operates at a clock speed of 20
MHz, LM7805 linear voltage regulator generates 5 volt which is required to operate LM7805.
IR2110 MOSFET driver is used to supply the switching pulses coming from microcontroller to the
MOSFET switches. The MOSFETs are driven by square wave PWM signals which are generated by
microcontroller.
The figure shows the output signals of simulation and experimental work. PSIM software is used to
perform the simulation.
V.CONCLUSION
1. To develop and improve the controlled circuit of single phase inverter is the main objective of the work. This
has been implemented by PIC microcontroller.
2. This method improves quality of the output waveform. This method is superior than other methods.
3. The tested inverter is loaded at various AC load such as 11 watt, 15 watts and 26watt.
