Research Proposal PDF
Abstract
Include information about the background, problem, yourself and your team, and the potential solutions, culminating
in your thesis or solution statement. Talk briefly about what the outputs or deliverables would be in the case of a
successful research program, and what resources would be required to obtain those deliverables.
Problem Statement
Talk about the unknown information that you want to discover, why those items are unknown, and talk briefly about
the implications of the discovery of evidence in this field. What industries does it effect, what technologies might be
based off it, and how does it effect humanity as a whole?
Thesis
Make it a couple sentences. It should probably be outlined at first, then later refined. It’s a distillation of the most
persuasive elements of your entire reasoning. It should include evidence-based logical elements, as well as appeals to
more human, emotional reasons, like why this project is it’s important to you.
Principal Investigators
Tell the stakeholders why you or your team is interested in this research. Include details about your team members.
Introduce the people, equipment, or existing resources that you have at your disposal, and why you need help to
continue.
Background
Talk about where you have been, what research has already been done, and include specific details about the recent
state of the art of this specific area. If you have completed a literature review, include the specific literature that
pertains to your project.
Goals
Talk about what you want to get out of the research. What will be the concrete deliverables at the end of the project?
What will the project look like, in the case that everything is completely successful?
Include a schedule of milestones and deliverables. If you can foresee a forking path in the research, include a forking
diagram to show how the research goals may change given certain discoveries.
