information

Mention the best practices identified as part of teaching this subject

1. Sharing prerecorded videos in advance before the actual class

2. Sharing animated videos of experiments for better understanding

Mention the Importance of this subject along with Real Time Applications
1. The systems and machines of our world depend on power electronics for the ability to run efficiently
and sustainably. Power electronics is the application of solid-state electronics to the control and
conversion of electric power.
2. An AC/DC converter (rectifier) is the most typical power electronics device found in many consumer
electronic devices, e.g. television sets, personal computers, battery chargers, etc.
3. In industry a common application is the variable speed drive (VSD) that is used to control
an induction motor.
4. Everything from power steering in your car, battery chargers, cell phones, UPS and microwaves
utilize power electronics.

Course Outcomes (COs)

 By the end of this course, students will be able to :

1. Obtain static characteristics of semiconductor devices to discuss their performance.

2. Trigger the SCR by different methods

3. Verify the performance of single phase controlled full wave rectifier and AC voltage controller with R
and RL loads.

4. Control the speed of a DC motor, universal motor and stepper motors.

5. Verify the performance of single phase full bridge inverter connected to resistive load.

Identified curriculum gap if any and Justification:

Identified Gap Justification

Modern Tool Usage Modern Tool usage (Simulation of Inverters and

Converters) is not included in the curriculum

Proposed Actions to fill the identified gaps:

By virtual labs and beyond syllabus experiments

Simulation of DC-AC and AC-DC converters will be given as an assignment / Mini project to the
students to understand the concept of DC-AC or AC-DC conversion.
