HISTORY
It was formed in 1947 with Post and Telegraph department and later on
established Pakistan first Telephone and Telegraph department in 1962 with
12346 telephone lines and 7 telegraph offices all over the Pakistan. In the year of
1991, Pakistan Telephone and Telegraph department was changed to Pakistan
Telecommunication Corporation. In 1996, under the Act of Pakistan
Telecommunication (Reorganization) Pakistan Telecommunication Company
Limited (PTCL) was formed and got listed on all exchanges of Pakistan. In 2005,
26% shares were sold to Etisalat Organization (an Abu Dhabi company) since then
PTCL is managed by Etisalat.

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) is the oldest
telecommunication provider in Pakistan. PTCL is the only company that provides
basic equipment of telecommunication to other Telecom operator and customers
of the country. PTCL has potential to serve the economic growth of Pakistan. It is
first Telecom Company that has web of networks under the international water.
PTCL operates in around 2000 exchanges nationwide. It has headquarter in the
capital city of Pakistan. In 2019, Mr. Rashid khan is named as the CEO of the
company. PTCL organization is managed by Etisalat organization.

culture (externally). They welcome the new ideas/innovative thinking. And they
worked over the areas which needed to be improved by gathering information

HOW MANAGER MOTIVATE THEIR
EMPLOYEES
In PTCL manager motivate their employees/staff in two ways either by
reinforcement or by punishment. It basically depend upon the situation
that how the employees are performing in the organization whether
he/she is standing on the expectations or not. If employee’s
performance is good he gets a bonus or dinner party from manager
side. PTCL have an event in which they choose employee of the month
from each department just to encourage the employee to work harder
and improve more and inspire the other employees. If the employees
does not do well he gets a punishment such as overtime or gets a
warning to work harder from next time.
INNOVATION
PTCL has been working on innovative ideas for long time. As they have introduce
new products in the markets and they still are working on their existed product
which has been restricted by other Telecom Company. They welcome every
innovative idea and they are updated with the information (internally or
externally).
PTCL can innovate new markets by improving their services. They can introduce
product differentiation by offering new and different packages to people, their
customers. PTCL is restricted to offering the services of internet only and this
restricts their market and customers. Instead of only offering internet services
they can provide products that are related to technology, this way they can
capture the technological market and penetrate here as well.

In PTCL organization process of planning starts with the top management as
hierarchy flow top to down and employees have to implement on top
managements’ plan such as company wants to launch new product in market first
step of organization is to survey that which type of product people want and how

carefully so that customers don’t face any problem in the search of product.

It is first Telecommunication Company of Pakistan which has a web of cable
spread in international water. Company motivates their employees at every step
through various ways. Company has many competitors in market which is trying
to bring PTCL at lower level but they are unsuccessful as PTCL is very oldest
organization which operates around 2000 exchanges across Pakistan. PTCL has
many products (telephone, internet and T.V. ETC) but still these products need to
be improved more so that customer gets full satisfaction from the organization.
Company welcomes the new innovative ideas but they implement over those
decision lately as organization has large staff. Managers uses the conceptual skills
to form a decision for achieving organizational goal.
RECOMMENDATION
Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) is very oldest and
reputed company of Pakistan and it has been working in the field of
internet and telephone line and is oldest in the field but still it is weak in
the field of internet service as compared to other Telecom Company
(ZONG) though PTCL has a spread network in Pakistan. In PTCL the decision
are made by top management as the hierarchy flows vertically and
hierarchy is vey strict, it should be loose so that employees have the right
to present their views/ideas towards product. At last,PTCL should improve
its service towards customers.
