Methodology Programme For Pile

This document provides load testing procedures for vertical pile load tests on 1200mm diameter piles at Bridge No. 5 and Bridge No. 17 of a railway siding construction project in India. The test will apply loads in increments of 20% of the design load and monitor settlement over 24 hours to verify the pile capacities. Load will be applied through hydraulic jacks and monitored with pressure gauges and dial gauges fixed to reference bars. The reaction system will utilize steel girders supported on bags or cubes to distribute the load across a Kent ledge reaction area exceeding the test load by 25%.

Subject:- Load Testing procedure for7200 mm dia. pile.

Vertical Pile Load Test

As Per IS: 2911 (Part-IV)

Diameter of pile 1200 MM

Design load of 1200 mm dia. 327 MT
Test load for initial1200 mm dia. 817.50 MT
Reaction system Kent ledge

Settinq-up Pile load test qccessories

1.. After completion of the test pile the top of the pile shall be chipped and dressed for
receiving 25mm thick bearing plate on the top.
2. Three hydraulic jacks of 250 ton capacity will be placed on the top of the bearing plate.
3. Main girder ISMB 600 for testing of the piles will be kept on the top of the bearing plate
provided on the jack.
4. Secondary girder UB 375 shall be placed on top of the main girder at equal spacing.
These secondary Girders shall be supported on temporary supports at either end by
bags/cu bes.
5. Kent ledge consisting of bags shall be placed symmetrically on the top of the secondary
girders the bags/cubes shall be placed in layers. The centre of gravity of Kent ledge
should be on the axis of the test pile of the load applied by the jack should also be co-
axial with test pile. The reaction to be made available for the test shall be 25% more
than test load proposed to be applied.
6. 4 Nos dial gauges to measure the settlement of the pile shall be fixed to independently
placed Datum bars. Reading shall be taken during each step of loading on the test pile.
Dial gauges of 0.01mm sensitivity
7. On completion of all the above arrangements, hydraulic lines shall be connected with
jack on one end and to hydraulic pump on another end. A calibrated pressure gauge
shall be connected to hydraulic line to note the pressure at each stage of loading and
unloading.
8. After all the above arrangements are completed loading on the test pile shall be
commenced in following manner:

Ve rticq I co m p re ssi on test :

8.1 Test shall be carried out by loading each increment of the load. Load increment
for each step shall be nearly 20% of the safe design capacity of pile.
8.2 The test load was applied on the pile cap by means of a hydraulic jack .The load
was applied in increments of about 2O%of the design load. Each stage of loading
was maintained till the rate of settlement either 0.1mm in first 30 minutes or 0.02
mm in first 1 or 2 hours whichever was earlier as per the provision of is code.
8.3 The full test load shall be maintained for 24 hours.
