Nandha Engineering College, Erode - 52

This document contains instructions for a computer-aided analysis laboratory exam consisting of 10 questions. Students are asked to analyze various mechanical structures and systems using ANSYS software to determine values like nodal displacements, stresses, temperatures, frequencies, and more. They must submit their work for each multi-part question within a 30 minute time limit for a total of 65 points per question. Dimensions, loads, material properties, and analysis steps are provided for beams, plates, trusses, axisymmetric and fin elements.

PART B

Year : IV
Semester: VII

Time : 30 minutes Maximum

Marks : 65
(Each question carries 65 marks)

Part B (65 marks for each question)

1. Analyze the rectangular plate with hole under axial load as shown in figure, Find the nodal
displacements and maximum, minimum stress developed in the plate for Mesh size = 5 & 10.
Take Thickness = 10 mm, Young’s modules = 2 x 105 N/mm2, Poisson’s ratio = 0.3, Force
= 5000 N, by using ANSYS-14.5.

All Dimensions are in “mm”

2. Analyze the one dimensional stepped barstepped bar as shown in figure.Find the nodal
displacements, reaction force and stress in each element. The modulus of elasticity is and
-6 -6
Coefficient of thermal expansion is 80 GPa, 19 X 10 /°C for bronze, 70 GPa, 23X 10 /°C
-6
for aluminium and 200 GPa, 11.7 X 10 /°C for steel. Increase in temperature of 80°C, by
using ANSYS-14.5.
3. Analyze the one dimensional truss as shown in figure
figure, find the nodal displacements, stress in
each members and reaction at the support. Take Area = 3800 mm2, Young’s modules = 2 x
105 N/mm2, Poisson ratio
io = 0.3, by using ANSYS-14.5.

All Dimensions are in “mm”

4. Analyze the one dimensional beam as shown in figure. Find the nodal displacements
(deflection). Plot SFD and BMD. Take Young’s modules= 2 x 105 N/mm2, Poisson’s ratio =
0.3, by using ANSYS-14.5.

All Dimensions are in “mm”

5. Analyze the simply supported beams as shown in figure. Find the nnodal
odal displacements. Plot
SFD and BMD. Young’s modules = 2 x 105 N/mm2, Poisson’s ratio = 0.3,, by using ANSYS
ANSYS-
14.5.
All Dimensions are in “mm”

6. Calculate the deflection, maximum and minimum stress for the axisymmetric element which is
show in figure. And take Young’s modules = 2 x 105 N/mm2, Poisson’s ratio = 0.3, Pressure =
2 Mpa, by using ANSYS-14.5.

All Dimensions are in “mm”

7. Determine the mode frequencies and mode shape for the beam element which is show in figure.
And take Young’s modules = 200 Gpa, Poisson’s ratio= 0.3, Density= 7800Kg/m 3 and Length
= 250 mm, by using ANSYS-14.5.

All Dimensions are in “mm”

8. Analysis a steady-state behavior of a cantilever beam (Show in figure) which is subject to

cyclic loads. And take by Young’s modules = 2 x 105 N/mm2, Poisson’s ratio = 0.3, Density =
7.83 x 10-5 N/mm3, Height = 120 mm, Width = 100 mm and Thickness = 10 mm, by using
ANSYS-14.5.

All Dimensions are in “mm”

9. Calculate the temperature distribution in a one dimension fin with physical properties given in
figure. The fin is rectangular in shape and is Long = 8 cm, Wide = 4 cm, Thickness = 1cm.
Assume that convection heat loss occurs from the end of the fin. Take Thermal conductivity K
= 3W/cm°C, Heat transfer coefficient h = 0.1W/cm2°C, Ambient temperature T∞ = 20°C, by
using ANSYS-14.5.

10. The beams, as shown below, are 100mm long, 10mm x 10mm in cross-section, have a Young's
modulus of 200 GPa, and are rigidly constrained at the outer ends. A 10KN load is applied to
the center of the upper, causing it to bend and contact the lower.
