END OF TERM ONE EXAMINATIONS, 2015

BUILDING DRAWING P720/2

TIME: 3 HOURS

Instructions:

This question paper consists of two sections, I and II.

Answer all the questions.

Where dimensions are not given, suitable dimensions are to be chosen.

Figure 1 shows a floor plan of a School Dormitory building, not drawn to scale. The wall
is 3000mm above floor level to receive the wall plate. Double gable roof pitched at 30o
covered with corrugated iron sheets and tiled ridge caps. The roof edges are finished
with fascia and barge boards.

The splash apron is 600mm wide.

Specifications

Foundation: Plinth wall is 1000mm deep from dpc level built on a strip foundation.

Floor: Concrete floor finished with 25 mm cement and sand screed laid 100 mm
thick concrete slab over 150 mm thick hardcore.

Roof: Timber gabled roof pitched at 30o and covered with corrugated iron
sheets.

Doors: External door D1 is double metal casement measuring 2100 mm x 1500


mm.

External door D2 is metal casement measuring 2100 mm x 850 mm.

All internal cubicle doors D3 are flush doors measuring 2100 mm x 800
mm.

Bath and toilet doors D4 are flush doors measuring 2100 mm x 800 mm.

Windows: Cubical windows are 1050 mm x 800 mm.

Laundry windows are 1200 mm x 1200 mm.

Toilet and bath windows are 700 mm x 700 mm.

SECTION I

1. Using the ground plan in figure 1, and the specifications given; draw a
proportional freehand sketch of the building with corner X in the fore ground.
(20marks)

SECTION II
2. (a) Using the given specifications and ground plan in figure 1, draw to a scale
of 1:100; (20marks)

3. (i) A complete plan of the building showing related symbols for sanitary
fittings, doors and windows in their correct positions. (20marks)

4. (ii) Front elevation projected from the plan. (13marks)

5. (iii) A sectional elevation through cutting plane Y-Y to show all the details
from foundation to ridge. Label all the parts. (24marks)

GEOMETRICAL AND BUILDING DRAWING P720/2

Instructions
 This paper consists of five questions.
 Answer all the questions.
 Where dimensions are not given, use your own discretion to determine
suitable specifications.

Specifications:
Foundation: Concrete strip foundation 750 mm by 250 mm and 1000 mm below
the ground level.

Floor: 100 mm thick concrete slab bed laid over 150 mm thick hardcore
and finished with 30 mm thick wood floor strips on 30 mm thick cement and sand
screed.
Verandah Finished with cement and sand screed.

Walls: All walls are 230 mm thick and 3000 mm high as measured from
screed to wall plate. Both sides of walls are plastered.

Roof: Pitched at 30o covered with corrugated iron sheets.


Hipped at bedroom and living room end.
Gable at kitchen end.
Verandah, garage and bathrooms covered with reinforced concrete
slabs of 150 mm thick, at 2500 mm height measured from floor screed.

Windows: W1 600 mm x 600 mm louvred


W2 1400 mm x 1200 mm louvred
W3 1200 mm x 600 mm Pompeii

Doors: D1 2100 mm x 900 mm flush door.


D2 2100 mm x 1000 mm framed, braced and battened door.
D3 2100 mm x 1500 mm metallic casement.
D4 2100 mm x 2750 mm wooden framed door.

Use the given specifications and the drawing to answer the following questions.

1. Draw a proportional freehand pictorial sketch of the building with corner B in


the fore ground. (19marks)
2. To a scale of 1:50, draw the plan of the building and show the necessary
symbols for the sanitary fittings, doors and windows. (15marks)
3. To a scale of 1:50, draw the vertical section on cutting plane J-J showing the
construction details. (25 marks)
4. To a scale of 1:10, draw plan of course one and two of the wall encircled P in
English bond. (08marks)

Walls: All walls are 230 mm thick and 3000 mm high measured from floor
level to the wallplate.

Roof: Timber gabled pitched at 30o and covered with corrugated iron
sheets. The roof is lined with fascia and barge boards.

Doors: All doors are framed, ledged, braced and battened.


D1 2100 mm high by 1200 mm double leaf.
D2 2100 mm high by 1000 mm wide.
D3 2100 mm high by 900 mm wide.

Windows: All windows are louvred fixed in wooden frames.


W1 600 mm by 600 mm
W2 1200 mm by 1200 mm.

Floor: Solid floor finished with a sand and cement screed of 25 mm thick
over 100 mm thick concrete laid on 150 mm thick hardcore.

1. Using the given specifications and figure 1 draw in good proportions a


freehand pictorial sketch making corner J the lowest point.
2. With a scale of 1:50, draw the plan showing the necessary symbols for
sanitary fittings, doors and windows.
3. Sketch the back and front elevations of a framed, ledged, braced and
battened door.
