LTE Identities (Identifiers)

MSIN:
1. MSIN = Mobile Subscriber Identification Number,
2. Assigned by operator and mapped with IMSI.
3. It is 9 or 10 bits long

IMSI:
1. IMSI = International Mobile Subscriber Identity.
2. A unique number associated with each mobile phone user.
3. Stored in the SIM and is sent to the network.
4. It is primarily intended for obtaining information on PLMN by subscribers.
5. It is also used to compute the Paging Occasions (PO) in LTE.

PLMN:
1. PLMN = Stands for Public Land Mobile Network.
2. Typically, the mobile network run by one network operator in one country.

MNC:
1. MNC = Mobile Network Code.
2. MNC uniquely identifies a mobile network operator/carrier.
3. Use of MNC in the construction of:
1. ECGI (E-UTRAN Cell Global Identifier),
2. Global eNodeB Identifier, and
3. Tracking Area Identity (TAI).

MCC:
1. MCC = Mobile Country Code
2. It uniquely identifies the country of a mobile subscriber.
3. It consists of three digits.
4. It is 12 bits long.
5. Use of MCC in the construction of:
1. ECGI (E-UTRAN Cell Global Identifier),
2. Global eNodeB Identifier and
3. Tracking Area Identity.

MMEC:
1. MMEC = Mobility Management Entity Code.
2. It identifies a MME within the scope of an MME Group in a PLMN).
3. It is 8 bits long.

MMEI:
1. MMEI = Mobility Management Entity Identifier,
2. It identifies an MME uniquely within a PLMN.
3. It is 24 bits long.
4. MMEI = MMEGI + MMEC

MMEGI:
1. MMEGI = Mobility Management Entity Group Identifier.
2. It Identifies a unique MME group within a PLMN.
3. 16 bits long

GUMMEI:
1. GUMMEI = Globally Unique Mobility Management Entity Identifier.
2. GUMMEI = PLMN + MMEI = MCC + MNC + MMEGI + MMEC
3. It is up to 48 bits long.

S-TMSI:
1. S-TMSI = System Architecture Evolution (SAE) - Temporary Mobile Subscriber
Identity.
2. S-TMSI = MMEC + M-TMSI
3. Unique identifier assigned to the UE by the MME in order to identify the UE context.
4. It is used to locally identify a UE within an MME group (Unique within a MME Pool).
5. It is 40 bits long.

M-TMSI:
1. M-TMSI = MME Temporary Mobile Subscriber Identity.
2. M-TMSI is used to preserve subscriber confidentiality.
3. Unique within an MME.
4. It identifies a user between the UE and the MMME.
5. It is 32 bits long

GUTI:
1. GUTI = Globally Unique Temporary Identity.
2. GUTI = GUMMEI + M-TMSI = PLMN + MMEI = MCC + MNC + MMEGI + MMEC + M-
TMSI
3. GUTI is used to identify a UE b/w UE & MME on behalf of IMSI for security reason.
4. It is no longer than 80 bits.

TAC:
1. TAC = Tracking Area Code
2. It is part of the Tracking Area Identity (TAI).
3. It is unique within a PLMN.
4. Used to indicate eNodeB, to which Tracking Area, the eNodeB belongs (per Cell).
5. It is a 16-bit integer,

TAI:
1. TAI = Tracking Area Identity (TAI)
2. TAI = TAC + PLMN = TAC + MCC + MNC
3. Used to identify Tracking Areas.
4. It is up to 32 bits.

PCI:
1. PCI = Physical Cell Identity
2. PCI = 3 * Physical Layer Group ID + Physical Layer ID
3. Range is 0 to 503 (total 504)
4. PCGID has a range of 0 to 167 (total 168)
5. PLID has a range of 0 to 2 (total 3)

eNodeB-ID:
1. eNB Identifier that used to identify an eNodeB uniquely within a PLMN.
2. It can have either 20 bits or 28 bits.
3. It is also comprised within the Global eNB-ID, which uniquely identifies an eNodeB Globally.

Cell-ID:
1. An internal descriptor for the cell.
2. Range is 0-255

GeNB-ID:
1. GeNB ID = Global eNB Identity (GENB-ID)
2. GENB-ID = PLMN-ID + eNB-ID
3. Used to identify the eNB over the S1-interface.

ECI:
1. ECI = E-UTRAN Cell Identifier (ECI)
2. ECI = eNodeB-ID + Cell-ID
3. Used to identify a cell uniquely within a PLMN.
4. It is 28 bits long
5. ECI can address either 1 or up to 256 cells per eNodeB, depending on the length of the
eNB-ID.

ECGI:
1. ECGI = E-UTRAN Cell Global Identifier (ECGI)
2. ECGI = PLMN-ID + ECI
3. It’s a globally unique identity of a cell in E-UTRA.

Radio Network Temporary identifiers:


RNTI in downlink:
1. RNTIs are used to identify UEs within E-UTRAN, in signalling messages between the UE and
E-UTRAN.
2. Several types of RNTI exist, including Cell-RNTI (C-RNTI), Paging-RNTI (P-RNTI), Random
Access-RNTI (RA-RNTI) and System Information-RNTI (SI-RNTI).

T C-RNTI:
1. T C-RNTI = Temporary C-RNTI.
2. The T C-RNTI is used for further communication between the terminal and the network.
3. A UE identifier allocated by an eNodeB and unique within one cell controlled by that

C-RNTI:
1. C-RNTI = Cell Radio Network Temporary Identifier.
2. Allocated by an eNodeB and unique within one cell.
3. The C-RNTI can be reallocated when a UE moves to a new cell.
4. It is 16 bits long

RA-RNTI:
1. RA-RNTI = Random Access Radio Network Temporary Identifier.
2. RA-RNTI is used to identify a message sent on PDCCH as a Random Access Response
(RAR).
3. It also indicates the time-frequency slot of the preamble to which the RAR corresponds.

P-RNTI:
1. P-RNTI = Paging-Radio Network Temporary Identifier.
2. A fixed identifier used on the PDCCH to indicate paging messages on PDSCH.
3. It is used to identify paging message sent by network.

SPS-C-RNTI:
1. SPS C-RNTI = Semi-Persistent Scheduling Cell- Radio Network Temporary
Identifier.
2. Used for scheduling messages transmitted on PDCCH for semi-persistently scheduled
PDSCH data transmissions.

SI-RNTI:
1. SI-RNTI = System Information Radio Network Temporary Identifier.
2. A fixed identifier used on PDCCH to indicate broadcast SIBs transmitted on PDSCH.
3. SI-RNTI allows SIBs to be distinguished from UEs’ data transmitted on the same channel.
4. It is transmitted as a scrambling code applied to the Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) of the
PDCCH transmission.

RNTI in Uplink:

TPC-PUCCH-RNTI:
1. TPC-PUCCH-RNTI = Transmit Power Control-Physical Uplink Control Channel-
RNTI
2. It is used for sending Transmit Power Control (TPC) Commands applicable to PUCCH.

TPC-PUSCH-RNTI:
1. TPC-PUSCH-RNTI = Transmit Power Control-Physical Uplink Shared
Channel-RNTI
2. This is used for sending Transmit Power Control (TPC) Commands applicable to PUSCH.
