Classification of Goods and Services

Nice Classification

The classification of goods and services is according to the ICGS under the Nice Agreement to
which Singapore is a signatory (“Nice Classification”). For the registration of your trade mark, you
are required to state the exact class number and appropriate specification according to the Nice
Classification.

The class headings of the Nice Classification give general information about the types of goods
and services which belong to each class. A specification indicating the class heading does not
amount to a claim for all the goods or services in that class. This list is not exhaustive and serves
as a quick reference to help you locate the correct class.

More details regarding the Nice Classification are available at WIPO’s website.

International Classification of Goods and Services (ICGS) Autochecker

The ICGS Autochecker helps trade mark applicants and agents search for and classify their goods
and services by verifying their list against our database of pre-approved items. Currently, there are
approximately 75,000 entries in our database.

The tool consists of two search functions namely, multi-item search and flexi-search. The multi-
item search function allows users to copy-and-paste, type or edit multiple descriptions of goods or
services. The tool will automatically split the specification along the semi-colons, and verify whether
each of the description is filed in the correct class. The flexi-search function allows user to perform
in-depth search of a single-item.

As the ICGS Autochecker may not reflect the most updated database of approved list of goods
and services, we recommend users to check against the current approved list of goods and
services available in the IP2SG system before making any submission.
