Subject Orientation Oral Communication For Grade 11
Oral Communication
Good Day everyone. I am your teacher in Oral Communication. This time, I am going to
discuss to you the nature of the subject and also the requirements of the course.
General Rules/Agreement
1. Listen. Actively listen to the person speaking, be it synchronous or
asynchronous. Please respect anyone who is delivering the lesson or
presentation.
2. Interact. Be kind and open to everyone. Participate to whatever teacher
instructed you to do.
3. Prepare. Ready your notes, materials, and questions. Also prepare your mind
when there are reading assignment that the teacher gave you
Prepare/list down your questions in mind, but please wait for your turn before
you address your questions. If not given the chance to entertain your
question, send it to me through given communication channel and your
teacher will answer it through messenger or email.
4. Security. Let us assure everyone a safe space. Respect agreements. No
judgements
Online Class Netiquette
1. Treat your instructor and your classmate with respect
2. While attending a class, choose a calm and silent place to make it more effective.
3. Don’t become too involved in cyberbullying. Don’t post or chare (even privately)
inappropriate material.
4. Try your best to look good online. So, dress up well for video classes.
5. Be punctual to classes. Respect other user’s time.
6. Be helpful to your peers. Be understanding. Be open minded and willing to
express your opinion.
7. Don’t abuse the chatbox of the online learning platform.
8. Promote healthy and constructive discussions. Wait for your turn to clarify your
doubts.
9. Don’t type in ALL CAPS or it will look like you are screaming.
What to expect in this subject
Nature of the subject as a Discipline
Engage students in various communicative processes that will help develop their
macro skills for the achievement of language proficiency and competencies in both
academic and work-related contexts.
Core Subject Description
The development of listening and speaking skills and strategies for effective
communication in various situations.
Requirements
1. Active conscious participation.
2. Note books for lecture. Not required but highly encourage.
3. Speaking and listening activities/performances.
4. Attend scheduled video conferences and watch pre-recorded discussion
5. Quizzes, Exams, Quarterly Assessments
Other reminders.
Attendance
This school year, we will use the output-based system. Meaning, your
attendance will be based on the outputs that you will submit. In the case that I do not
give an activity because of long discussion, a google form will be sent to you to record
your attendance.
Books
I highly encourage you to buy book. This will serve as your guide towards the
discussion.
Activities/ Seatwork/ Output
Most of the time, after every lesson, task/s will be given to you. You need to
accomplish and submit it on the time given to you by your teacher.
Missed tasks (output, activities, seatwork)
Tasks which are not submitted on time will have a deduction on points. For those
absentees, you will be given a chance to submit it on the day of your return provided
that you will have an excuse letter from your parent stating your valid reason.
Quizzes/ Exams
Quizzes and exams are always synchronous.
Misses quizzes/exams
Failure to take the exam and submit activities/quizzes/ outputs because of valid
reason will be given a day to take the exam with excuse letter.
e-Portfolio
At the end of every quarter will be submitting an e-portfolio using power point.
Just because the submission in in the end of every quarter, you will do it a week before
the submission. Discipline yourself, do it from time to time. Formats for your e-portfolio
will be discussed one of these days.
Rules and agreement
1. Always read instructions. If instructions are unclear to you don’t hesitate to ask.
2. Maximize the time given for any tasks. Concentrate. Finish your work on time.
3. Submit the task/s on or before deadline.
4. Always log-in to your LMS 5 minutes before the scheduled time and 10 minutes
before the conference.
5. Refrain from taking screen shots while video class is going on.
6. Do not steal content online and don’t forget to give credit to what you use.
7. If you can’t able to connect to our LMS send me a message stating your valid
reason why you are absent/late that time.
8. Strictly follow formats for any encoded tasks.
9. When asked to submit a captured output, make sure that is clear and you
handwriting is legible.
10. You are required to speak in English in any of our activity. Online conferences,
when asking and answering questions, and the like.
11. Be honest in answering every survey when instructed to do so.
