Gary Gygax Q&A Part Xxi
Gary Gygax Q&A Part Xxi
[Gary & I kinda divided things less by choice and more by natural inclination. EGG and I both
loved developing city and castle info. We also had the urge to develop planar/dimensional
pocket stuff. When he was sculpting the G-D-Q series I was about fleshing out Dark Druids
and other partial outdoor/dungeon adventures (WG5, et al).
To this day I still consider the Giant/Drow series the best developed sub-setting/adventure
within the OAD&D/GH venue.
I also liked a lot of political intrigue back then (and still do) and mysterious happenings and so
worked these elements in with the Demonworld material and the Elder God twists, with the
latter's temple being connected via the sewer to the City. [RJK]

[Way back when you had the wizard Lendore in the Spindrift Isles, and a floating castle of
green, glassy substance. First, was that castle inspired by Caer Sidi (also called: Caer Sidhe,
Caer Droia, Caer Pedryvan, & Caer Wydyr... ), the rotating castle of glass of Faerie. Secondly,
who/what was Lendore, and who/what was his council? The Suel culture was oddly prevalent
on his isle--was Lendore Suel as well?]
I never continued developing that as Len Lakofka was parceled the Spindrifts (and whatever
else) by EGG as a proprietary area for development as Len saw fit. In fact he complained about
the that particular Dragon article, so there was no further development on my part.
Anything dealing with that, or the Suel Gods, Len developed by himself or in concert with
EGG. [RJK] http://piedpiperpublishing.yuku.com/topic/2175?l=1
In fact I used the example of Robilar and party first discovering a Black Pudding in Castle
Greyhawk for the first time, that during my Rediscovering Fantasy in FRPG seminar at
GENCON. Keep the mystery high at all times: wonder, excitement (and PC/Player fear) will
soon follow. [RJK] http://piedpiperpublishing.yuku.com/topic/2227
We did use barsoomian apes and such in the playytest of the rules because this due ro Ernie
Gygax's PC adventurering on Mars amd doing a lot of fighting there. [RJK]

[Re: Acererak]
I playtested the addy the very night Gary finished typing the last page. He's a fictional Lich, no
more, unless Gary has some real "skeletons" in his Greyhawk closet I know nothing of... [RJK]

Yes, that tale was told [about Robilar ordering a sage to figure a way to take him to the moon],
but confusion has arisen somewhere, as I had another MU I had worked up, who was Herb.
The Sage was actually Isador who made Robilar experince "time travel" and the Apollo 1
prgram via catapult. [RJK] http://piedpiperpublishing.yuku.com/topic/2295
Ah, yes, but me records indicate an Isador, too. How did he come about then? Lest he was the
first sage I dealt with before I hired Herb? [RJK]

Obmi first appeared in the setting, with a magical force projector that included both a reversal
of course and a temporary illusion that the subjects were still moving towards the dwarf and
his gnoll archers. After a round of enforced retrograde the effect ended, and the party was
back where it started from. I think one of the PCs finally managed to lightning bolt the
projector. Obmi survived and ran off using his boots of speed to thwart pursuit. That so
enraged the battered party that I determined to make him a recurring and most villainous
antagonist [EGG] http://piedpiperpublishing.yuku.com/topic/1947?page=3
There will be new maps done that incorporate the best portions of the old, include the salient
features. this is necessary because the plan for my original dungeons was 13 levels, that
expanded by adding adjoining and sub-levels to about 20. When Rob joined me as co-DM. we
worked in his levels, added a bunch of new ones, and ended up with about 40 or so. [EGG]
