1. Purpose
The purpose of this SOP is to establish and provide procedure to handle and use the
chemicals which are hazardous and dangerous.
2. Scope
This procedure is applicable to chemicals lying in laboratory which are hazardous and
dangerous while using and storage in

4. Responsibility
It will be the responsibility of the Tech.Assistant Executive for the implementation of this
SOP.
6.1. The chemicals which are labelled as per following category & symbol are considered to be
hazardous

6.2. Handle the hazardous chemicals only using protective means like hand gloves, safety
goggles.
6.3. Keep yourself away from container, while pouring out of siphoning the chemicals.
6.4. Use suction bulb or vacuum during pipetting of solution.
6.5. While preparing dilute sulphuric acid solution take special care as follows.

6.6. First cool the aqueous solution in ice bath. Slowly add sulphuric acid into the solution
with constant stirring. Never follow reverse procedure.
6.7. Keep inflammable liquids and substances away from naked flame or electric spark.
6.8. Carefully handle the ether like chemicals and it should not be used near flame.
6.9. Clean the spillage if any as per SOP.
