videos to playlists, report, and subscribe to other users and upload their own videos. The video service
can be accessed on PCs, laptops, tablets and via mobile phones.

- YouTube was founded by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim.

- it was officially launched on December 15, 2005, it was serving more than two million video views each
day.

integrated on April 23, 2005 after being named "Tune In, Hook Up" the original idea of Chad Hurley,
Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim. The concept was an online dating service that ultimately failed but had an
exceptional video and uploading platform.

- The idea of the new company was for noncomputer experts to be able to use a simple interface that
allowed the user to publish, upload and view streaming videos through standard web browsers and
modern internet speeds. Ultimately, creating an easy to use video streaming platform that wouldn't
stress out the new internet users of the early 2000s.

billion in stock, which was completed on November 13. - The agreement between Google and YouTube

founders and 68 employees working within Google. - The creation of YouTube has allowed for a brand
new job archetype to emerge from the media platform, being a YouTuber. The role has evolved from its
early days and has become something totally different than it originally was. In the beginnings of
YouTube, the creators did not do everything for the money, because generally there was none, today
wealth is directly associated with the title.
- Before everything on YouTube was overrun with ads, monetization and loud teenagers the content
creators did it for the publicity and love of creating videos. In the early days of the video platform
popularity and payment was determined by the amount of subscribers a channel had, today things are

 Number of users ( 2 000 million)

 United States (country of origin)

 WhatsApp Messenger, or simply WhatsApp, is an American freeware, cross-platform messaging

and Voice over IP (VoIP) service owned by Facebook, Inc.

 Launched in 2009, WhatsApp is one of the most popular text and voice messaging apps. It’s free
to use, and you can send messages, make voice calls, and host video chats on both desktop and
mobile devices.

 Part of what makes this app appealing is that it works on various phone and computer operating
systems, helping with messaging. It can also take advantage of Wi-Fi and cellular data to make
one-on-one or group calls.

 In January 2018, WhatsApp released a standalone business app targeted at small business
owners, called WhatsApp Business, to allow companies to communicate with customers who
use the standard WhatsApp client.

 WhatsApp has a number of advanced security features. It has end-to-end encryption, just like
Apple’s iMessage and Signal. All messages flowing through the platform are secured so that only
the sender and the recipient can view them.

 The app doesn’t store your personal information, and only people you approve as contacts can
message you. As with an increasing number of internet services like Google and Facebook,
WhatsApp uses two-factor authentication, which has you type in a second passcode sent to your
phone via text message to access your account.

 WhatsApp says it serves more than 2 billion people in over 180 countries, with over 1 billion
daily active users. WhatsApp Messenger is now the leading mobile messaging app in 169
countries. The app dominates in India, Germany, Russia, and the U.K. Despite its considerable
virtues and impressive stats.
 WhatsApp generally takes a broad approach to reach as many people as possible around the
world. According to a Market Intelligence Insights report, WhatsApp is gaining in popularity
compared with its competitors, even edging out its own Facebook sibling, Messenger.

 QQ

 694 million (number of users)

 China (country of origin)

 Tencent QQ, also known as QQ, is an instant messaging software service and web portal
developed by the Chinese tech giant Tencent. QQ offers services that provide online social
games, music, shopping, microblogging, movies, and group and voice chat software.

 QQ is Tencent’s instant messaging platform developed in 1999 that’s said to be an imitation of

ICQ, which was developed in 1996.

 21 years ago the developer of this apps are Shenzhen Tencent Computer System and originally
from China. QQ was first released as a "network paging" real-time communications service.
Other features were later added, such as chatrooms, games, personal avatars (similar to
"Meego" in MSN), online storage, and Internet dating services.

 QQ is one of the biggest social media platforms in the world. QQ is so huge, it set a Guinness
world record for having the largest number of users online at the same time.

 QQ was the first product released by the company Tencent, which is now one of the largest
internet companies in the world. Tencent’s founder, Ma Huateng, known as “Pony Ma”,
received startup capital from powerful billionaire Li Ka-shing through a hometown connection
between the men.

 The original 1999 logo for QQ, then known as OICQ (or Open ICQ). 18 years on, QQ’s redesigned
logo still sports the familiar penguin, now wearing a red scarf and winking.

 At launch, QQ (then known as OICQ) was just a simple instant messenger and a blatant copy of
an Israeli app called ICQ. However, improvements quickly followed. Today, you can play online
games, customize your avatar, send and receive emails and large files, share Snapchat-style
disappearing videos and animations, and join online groups of like-minded individuals.

 You can also stream music, find a partner via QQ’s dating service, and use the Facebook-like
Qzone for sharing with friends and reading their posts in your news feed. No longer just a
desktop app, QQ and Qzone are also available on your smartphone.

 QQ hit one million users in its first year and 50 million in its second. By its tenth year, in 2008,
the startup had 856 million total users, a record of 45.3 million simultaneous online users, and
more quarterly income than the next two largest Chinese internet companies (Alibaba and Baidu
– you may have heard of them) put together.

 As China’s first hugely popular messaging service, QQ shaped the development of both China’s
web and mobile web. Despite being launched all the way back in 1999 (5 years before
Facebook), QQ has survived the trials of time. It has also survived a sustained effort by its own
founders to destroy it.
