Full Report Beam

The document provides an analysis of the structural design of a 3-storey school building. It includes architecture plans for each floor, structural drawings, 3D views, and beam design calculations. The objectives are for students to practice using ESTEEM software for structural design. Beams are designed according to BS8110:1997 and include specifications, loading assumptions, and reinforcement requirements. Reinforcement is checked against requirements for flexural design.

1.0 INTRODUCTION
Structural design is a process of determination of reliable structural system, suitable material selection
and obtaining the optimum members sizes for the structure to be built. The purpose of structural design
is to guarantee the performance of structure is satisfied during its design life. There are several
requirements to construct a building. For instance, each structure in a building must have function and
aesthetic value where the arrangement of space, span, access ability, ceiling height should complement
the intended use. Besides that, building must have safety and reliability element where a structure
required to be strong and adequate to support all anticipated loading safely and not deflect or overturn,
crack or vibrate in any manner that threaten the usefulness. Additionally, economy and cost effective
are significant especially for client to not exceed their budget and as designer also should consider not
only on materials cost but also the construction time, temporary structure cost and maintenance cost.
Lastly, every structure building should be designed to require minimum maintenance and ease the
maintenance. This project is building of a three-storey school that consist of office, classroom,
workshop, library, assembly area, staircase, and toilet. The equivalent British Standards are BS8110:
1997 Part 1; Code of practice for design and construction, BS8110: 1997 Part 2; Code of practice for
special circumstances and BS8110: 1997 Part 3; Design charts for singly reinforced beam, double
reinforced beams, and rectangular columns.

1.1 PROJECT SPECIFICATION

A three-storey school building
Brickwall thickness = 230 mm
Beam size = 300 x 600 mm
Column size = 500 x 500 (rectangular)
Slab thickness = 175mm
Floor height = 1800mm (footing to gf), 3600mm (gf to 1st floor, 1st floor to 2nd floor, 2nd floor to rf)

2.0 OBJECTIVES
The objectives of this project for students practice on using of ESTEEM software before entering the
new working life outthere. Besides that, to enhance the application of study from structural design
class into software other than autocad software. As going through the process of using ESTEEM, the
steps and procedure is more easier than other software especially for detailing where it already generate
based on the structural drawing. However, ESTEEM license is expensive and have expired data for
each users.
