Hypothesis

The following hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance:

Ho1: There is no significant relationship between the respondents’ age, gender, kind of work,
average daily income, and educational attainment with risk of acquiring HIV and AIDS
Ho2: There is no significant relationship between the respondents’ level of awareness, survival
modes and sexual behavior to the potential risk of acquiring HIV and AIDS

Scope and Delimitations of the Study

This study will examine the potential risk of street children, specifically the adolescents,
in acquiring HIV or AIDS in Iligan City. The researcher will conduct the study in Barangay
Poblacion, Iligan City which is an area where street adolescents are visible and are dense based
on the reports from DSWD and PNP in Iligan. The researcher will select 30 street adolescents
ranging from ages 11 to 18 years old as respondents. Key informants from DSWD and PNP were
consulted for an in-depth overview of the street children in the city. Furthermore, street children
less than 11 years of age, not roaming in Barangay Poblacion, Iligan City and unrecognized by
the local DSWD as street children will be excluded from the study. The data will be gathered
through interviews and focused group discussions.
The study will look into the conditions of street adolescents particularly their level of
awareness in HIV and AIDS, sexual risk behavior, and information about their modes of street
survival. Variables such as age, gender, religion, relationship status, and type of sexual
relationship, family structure, nature of work, average daily income, residential status and
educational attainment will be gathered.
