WPAP Portrait - Adobe Illustrator Project
WPAP Portrait - Adobe Illustrator Project
What you will learn: Using a combination of tools, you will create s hapes to i llustrate a portrait in the
WPAP style.
Step One: Decide if you want to illustrate a portrait you created (your own photography), or you can find a
high-resolution portrait online to illustrate. I must a pprove all project ideas before you begin. Whatever
portrait you choose, I suggest you find one where the person’s eyes are open all the way and facial
expressions are easily recognizable. In other words, don’t choose profile shots or images where you can’t
really see their face. This project is all about the face.
Once you have your project idea….follow these steps.
1. Open Adobe Illustrator on your computer. (Ai)
2. Go to F
ile>New and choose Art/Illustration, then Poster. Click OK.
3. Drag your photo onto the document. Find the A rtboard Tool. You can fit your artboard (white document
area) to the size of your portrait by clicking and dragging on the sides of artboard with this tool selected.
You only need to design the face, so your artboard only needs to cover the face.
4. Watch a few minutes of the video provided on google classroom - and watch it fullscreen/HD. This
shows how the pen tool can create shapes by a series of clicks. There are more videos you can watch on
youtube if you prefer to watch more!
After the video…
5. Open your Layers panel. Lock the image layer.
6. Make a new layer, call it Shapes. This layer should be a bove the image layer.
