Factors Responsible For Social Change
Geographical Factors
Certain geographical changes may produce social changes. Floods, drought, earthquake,
storm or even hot and cold climate are capable of transforming people’s style. All those and
the abundance or scarcity of resources also affects populations to a great extent.
Psychological Factors
Psycological factors are a significant component in social changes. Man is a no stranger to its
habit of changing. We are all destined to discover new stuff from all our sides of life. Human
would always be looking for new adventures. This habit that originates from our very first
ancestor is the very thing that got us to where we are at the moment.
Sociological Factors
Social change may also come from social conflicts, development and functioning of human
society. For example, the industrialization of society meant that there was no longer a need
for a large family to produce manual labor to run a farm. As for those in the urban areas, it is
normal to have a small family as the cost to live there are expensive.
Environmental Factors
Changes in the natural environment could also lead to changes in the society itself. This can
be seen during natural disasters like hurricane, tsunami or landslides strikes. However, a
man-made environmental problems is also responsible for the social changes. For instance,
pollution, regardless of what form it is, brought great harm to the society - especially the
poor. Their financial constraint leaves them with limited solution.
Ideological Factors
Ideologies are a huge contributor to social changes. An ideal, especially concerning
economy, political and religious beliefs has been the headlines of our world since 2000s. The
economy collapses, terrorist attacks that are motivated by religious beliefs and the Trump
Wall are some of the events that has greatly damaged the society.
Legislative Factors
Legislative mainly plays as an instrument in social change. It generally function as an
collection of people that finds balance in the society. For example, in Malaysia, the Dewan
Negara and Dewan Negeri passes law that could benefit the society and help the country to
flourish.
Cultural Factors
Cultures plays a huge role in society change but sometimes, it could be the factor that will
stop the society if the changes that were going to occur were contradicting the culture itself.
For example, public display of affection are becoming a trend that is acceptable in most
countries, but not in Malaysia as it is a conservative country.
Modernization
Modernization can be defined as a process that will bring about the desired change. It could
be a change in the form of social, economic, technology, moral and educational structure.
Despite it may have underlying problem, modernization are usually done for the benefit of
all.
Globalization
Globalization is an ongoing process that involves interconnected changes in the economic,
cultural, social, and political spheres of society. As a process, it involves the ever-increasing
integration of these aspects between nations, regions, communities, and even seemingly
isolated places. globalization are fueled by technological development, the global integration
of communication technologies, and the global distribution of media.
