Career Self-Assessment and Personal Reflection—5 pts. total


1) What careers/aspects of biology or another intended/declared major pique your interest? Why?
Do you have other strong interests that could be combined with a foundation in biology or
another discipline to create a unique career? Explain.

2) What are your personal career goals? Why? What has led you to these particular goals?

3) Have your goals changed since you initially set them? If so, how have these goals changed over
the years and why?

4) How “set” are these goals? What if you are unable to achieve these goals? What is your “back-
up” plan? Why?

5) Answer the following questions in regard to the career goal you listed in #2 above:
® How many total years of education are required for you to achieve your goal?
® Provide a timeline for your educational journey. For example, you should
include your undergraduate training and all subsequent associated school and/or
training that is required before you will be a practicing professional.
® Focus on the undergraduate portion of your journey. What must you achieve at PLU in
order to take the next step? For example, if you’re interested in graduate school, what GPA
and/or GRE scores are necessary for admission? What type of service/volunteer work is
needed to be competitive?
® Are you willing to devote the necessary study time to achieve these requirements? What
changes do you need to make to your current practices in order to achieve your goals?

Career Insights from Attending Career Panel (11/16 at 2 pm) —5 pts. total
What is one insight you gained from attending the Biology Department Career Panel (11/16 at 2pm
in Leraas Lecture Hall) that informs how you think about your career goals and/or academic
future? Describe what you learned, how it changed or reaffirmed your plans, and what you might do
or think about differently as a result.
