Research Activity #1 School and Community Relations

The school and its community, in collaboration with public and private institutions and
organizations, are cannot be separate if they are creating an impact on the lives of the students and
members of the community, they are committed to serving. As the saying goes, “We cannot live for
ourselves alone.” It is really true we need our school and of course our community to survive life. It
serves as our laboratories in facing our future. It is our guide and in the same times our steps to build a
life in the near future.
A teacher’s job in the community is not possible to attain if the community itself is not
supportive or helpful. Therefore, to be able to have a healthy relationship between the school and the
community, both must give and take fairly.
The school does not only stand on its own, rather it is accompanied by the community, linkages
and other organizations with the goal of improving education and making education accessible to all.

1. Described how school and community officials work together

The school and the community are the mainsprings of effective and powerful forces that can
create wholesome climate for mutual gains and betterment. They can forge a kind of partnership where
both are willing to share information as well as responsibilities to the best interest of the children while
in school, likewise when dealing with members of the community. When schools and community
organizations work together to support learning, everyone benefits. Partnerships can serve to
strengthen, support, and even transform individual partners, resulting in improved program quality,
more efficient use of resources, and better alignment of goals and curricula (Harvard Family Research
Project, 2010).
Connection between the school and community provides a way to build professional
relationship to within the school and community officials. When students, teachers, parents,
administrators, and other community member talk and listen to each other, they will gain a deeper
understanding of what they want from their schools. They will also be building bonds of community that
are essential to effective schools. Without this linkages and networking with organization our life seems
nothing especially our studies. This linkage is a big help to us. It is our advantages.

a. Socio-cultural activities
A community school that has linkages for both a place and a set of partnerships
between the school and other community resources. It provides academics, health and social services,
youth and community development, and community engagement, and brings together many partners to
offer a range of support and opportunities for children, youth, families, and communities. The school is
generally open for extended hours for everyone in the community.
Partnership between school and community improves the socio-cultural aspect in terms
of home environment (socio-economic status, type of family, learning environment in home), gender,
language, ethnic, mother tongue etc. There will be building of mutual respect between the school
authorities and stakeholders if proper collaboration will be provided.

b. Peace and order (in school & outside the school projects)
First and foremost, learning partnerships can support student outcomes (see, for
example, Little, Wimer, & Weiss, 2008). The parents are the first teachers in the home. They are
responsible for the development of values, attitudes and habits that will be needed as their children
associate with classmates in the school. The members of the community in addition to the parents
and relatives like the government officials, the professionals and all residents are highly motivated
to participate in the parent-teacher activities and projects such as maintaining the safety and order
of the school.
The school officials shall actively participate in community projects. Participation
between school and community is important especially if there are some collaboration that is need
to accomplished. Nationalism, unity, respect for authority and self-discipline should also be
developed by the students with the help of the school and community.
