Task Description:
For this task you will learn about “Watson” cloud services. With Watson on “IBM
Cloud”, business have access to the widest range of cognitive technologies available
today to quickly and securely build smart applications. From analysing images and
video to understanding sentiment, keywords and entities from text, Watson services
enable cognitive within business applications. Watson is so much more when it
comes to cognitive computing. Natural Language Understanding, Visual
Recognition, and Discovery reveal insights from unstructured data capable of
reinventing operations and transforming industries.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the first step you will watch a YouTube video created by a couple of university
students giving a short presentation about “Watson”.
In the second and third step, you will use some “Watson” cloud services, namely
“Natural Language Understanding” and “Personality Insights”. “Natural Language
Understanding” analyses free text for understanding overall sentiment and emotions.
“Personality Insights” uses transactional and social media data to gain insight into
how and why people think, act, and feel the way they do. This service applies
linguistic analytics and personality theory to infer attributes from a person's
unstructured text.
In the fourth step, you will learn how Watson “Virtual Agent” is used as a new way
to provide automated services to business customers.
In the last step, you will create a page in Mahara (ePortfolio) which will contain
answers to questions related to IBM “Watson” cloud services.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 1: Watch Youtube video “How does IBM Watson work?” (06:14)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7E1TJ1HtM0
Step 2: Use demo version of Watson cloud service for “Natural Language
Understanding”
a. Open your web browser and go to “Natural Language Understanding” IBM
web page: https://natural-language-understanding-demo.mybluemix.net/

and click on “Text”. Paste copied text (from the second browser tab) into the
text box and click on the “Analyse” button.
e. Click on the “Sentiment” button and note the “Overall Sentiment”. Explore
various parts of the analysis by clicking on the other buttons such as
“Emotion”, “Keywords”, “Entities”, “Categories”, and “Concept” .
Can you make sense what is the analysed text about without reading it?
f. Try to think how this cloud service could be useful for an organisation such as
bank or a large retail shop. If you are still unsure, watching this YouTube
video might help you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MB4ynlq52C4

to the following questions:
(Rouse, M, 2020)
The Watson “Natural Language Processing” can be used in the AI customer service
section of the mobile app of the bank to parse the customers’ questions and then
give the best answers after choosing the right and related words and phrases.
For instance, some Australian banks use an online chatbot installed on the mobile
app to quickly and accurately answer the customers’ questions.

The Watson “IBM Voice Agent with Watson” makes it easy to create and manage
chatbots that clients can communicate with over the phone and that identify what a
caller is saying and respond back in real time. An Australian bank can use it to
quickly and accurately respond to their customers’ questions and demands and
increase the happiness among the customers.
