Proposal On Tuition Block
Proposal On Tuition Block
INTRODUCTION
Education is there to success and is the only thing that brings light to the society. Therefore, due
to rapid increase of student’s in Makini Technical Training Institute and in Mwea town in
general students furthering their studies, hereby wish to come up with a tuition block which will
be a position to accommodate large number of students to avoid time wasted by most of students
in hostels waiting those who have morning sessions to finish so they can have their lessons. The
tuition block will be located in Makini Technical Training Institute.
The size of the proposed plot where the building will be constructed will be of size 60000mm by
45000mm. the building size will be 483000mm by 40400mm where the remaining space will be
used for packing and study shades for the students during their free time and where by it will the
access point for WIFI. The size of the classes will be 9000mm by 8000mm and the building will
be of two stories that it will have two upper floors.
The reason for my project is through a research having done there is a high enrolment in the
college hence making most of students to lack class to take their lectures. Through my research I
came to realize that most if the rooms are too small compared to the number of students in the
same room where by they end up sitting five in one bench where the bench should be used by a
maximum of three students. Hence the ventilation in very poor and there is no room for
emergency escape. The building will also be provided with fire extinguishers and first aid kit in
every floor in case of emergency.
People with special needs also find it hard to access classes on the story buildings due to lack of
a lift where they can use it to access their rooms on upper floors and due to this problem in my
project I have introduced a lift where it will be very easy to those with special needs to access
their classes without any barrier. That will not make them to fail to attend their lectures.
Security will be enhanced by installation of CCTV cameras with hand with human personnel will
be employed to reinforce the security of the students and property in the block. Where by all
cameras and data about security will be kept in the control room which will be in the security
room.
There will be also a multipurpose hall where students from all departments will be able to meet
and handle their departmental meetings. The size of hall will be 18000mm 8000mm, and it will
be located at ground floor where each one will be in a position to access it.
NAME
The tuition block will be named as Makini Technical of Engineering where by all engineering
courses will be studied in this new tuition block to avoid engineering students being mixed up
with other students doing other course as it is the situation now.
It’s through this name (SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING) that will attract more students who are
doing engineering in other institutions and those who are willing to an engineering course will
join the institution to further their studies up to a higher diploma. The institution will also attract
students from all parts of the country of which the school will be provided with higher revenue
which will make it to do more developments to make the institution more attractive to more
students as time goes by.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Having no services like printing, M-pesa and cyber provided within the institution there us a
need for this services to be provided within the compound to reduce time students waste walking
out of the school compound just to seek these facilities where by outside there some of the
services are very expensive and the same services can be provided within the institution at a
lower price.
With the presence of departmental offices within the tuition block students will be able to save a
lot of time because all offices will be within instead of the students to go the administration
block where they will be seeking help from relevant lectures.
Lack of sufficient space in the main hall, within the new tuition block we will have a hall which
will accommodate and make students comfortable while having departmental meetings or
students watching their favorite programs.
AIMS
Various facilities will be offered within the building e.g. printing services
Employment of staff to those who will be working there.
Income generating to the institution since some units(rooms) will be rented out
These will reduce errors which occur during allocation of rooms i.e. one room given to
two different classes or students.
OBJECTVES
There will be sufficient rooms for all students
Source of revenue to institution through payment of rent
Learning improvement through e-learning (fiber will be installed in the block.)
Employment of both skilled and unskilled personnel to work within the tuition block.
Time will be saved as the collision of classes will reduce due to sufficient rooms and less
movements in the institution
Students with special needs can access the building by use of ramp and be able to
maneuver through the building without difficulties.
It will minimize access to the building by the students from other departments whereby
student entering the building will be swiping their students their student’s ID at the main
gate.
FACILITIES
Ground floor
1. Staff room
The staff room will be 9000mm by 9000mm in size and will be located near the main
entrance
2. Exams room
The exam room will be located next to staff room where one entering the exam room will
be passing through the staff room this is due to security purposes. The size of the room
will be 9000mm by 8000mm.
3. Printing room/M-pesa
The printing and the M-pesa services room will be located at the main entrance nest to
the staircase. The size of room will be 8000mm by 7500mm.
4. Classrooms
The rooms will be of size 9000mm by 8000mm of which they will be in a position to
accommodate at least 50 students
5. Toilets
The washrooms will be is in number of size 1600mm and 1200mm and they will be
located at the far end of the building this is to reduce the pipe work because of the sewer
line is near at that end
6. Security office
The security room will be at the main entrance and it will be of size 3000mm by 3000mm
7. CCTV cameras
CCTV cameras will be installed at ever floor where by the watch room will be security
office.
8. Wi-Fi rooter
The Wi-Fi rooter will be installed in the room that will used for printing services, this
because it’s at a central position where the strength of the signal will be of about
1500mps. This will help the students to do their research in time and very fast.
9. Hall (multipurpose hall)
The multipurpose hall will be on third floor and it will of size 18000mm by 8000mm
FIRST FLOOR
1. Class rooms
The rooms will be of the same size like those on the ground floor
2. Departmental offices
All departmental offices will be located on the first floor where by they include building
and civil engineering office, mechanical/automotive engineering office and electrical
engineering offices.
3. Toilets
The washrooms will like those of the size like those on other floors
SECOND FLOOR
1. Classrooms
The rooms will be like those on the other floors
2. Toilets
The washrooms will be of the size like those on other floors
3. CCTV cameras
The security cameras will be even installed in the hall so that the security officers will be
in a position to monitor all activities going on in the hall
CONSTRUCTION
The construction of the project will be involving the following
Site preparation
This involves clearing the site and setting out the proposal site
i) Excavation
This involves the removal of the top soil to suitable level. It also involves excavation
of foundation trenches and pits for column bases.
ii) Levelling
This involves leveling the bottom of trenches to make them ready to receive binding
iii) Foundation bases
It involves lying of column bases into foundation with footings ready to receive strip
concrete.
iv) Columns
Columns to be use in the construction will be of the size 300mm square and they will
be at a spacing of 4500mm center to center.
Brickworks
From the walls from the foundation to the gamble
v) Roof trusses and tiles
vi) Fixing of doors and windows
vii) Plaster works and fittings
viii) Practical completion
It involves inspection of the project and making corrections
ix) Handing over the project
It involves handing over the project to the client after accomplishment
LOCATION FOR THE PROJECT
The proposed project site for the tuition block will be about 200m from the main gate deviating
to the left 50m to reach the proposed site. It will be located opposite the BCE tuition block.
I choose this area because the soil has high bearing capacity whereby the soil can withstand
bigger storey building
Second, there is enough space for placing material. We also have enough working space for
concreting works.
As this area is located along Makutano- Embu road which makes the location accessible for
either both side.
CONCLUSION
The structure will help students to save a lot of time because they used a lot time seeking same
service which were lacking under one building bur now they will be available under one
structure.
Since the structure will be modernized by offering all the facilities the students require, therefore
it will enhance the co-existence between the entire fraternities and will portray good appearance
of the institution.
The structure will consolidate all departmental offices under engineering department where by
the lectures will be near the students and the students will access the relevant office very easily
and save a lot of time
