VMS Installation Guide

[ Application: Base, Rich and Core

[ Platform : Linux 64 Bit ]
Introduction
Video Management Server (VMS) receives the video from the IP-cameras or Encoders, records the video
(either motion based or continuous) in the Network Attached Storages or in local hard disks and streams
the video to the IVMS Clients for Live View. It receives the PTZ control commands from the Video
Surveillance Client application and accordingly issue commands to the cameras. One can connect to the
VMS server by logging in with Admin privilege to configure various components (Storage, Cameras, etc)
and services (Recording, Events, etc) using Video Surveillance Client application.
Before starting Video Management Server (VMS) installation, some Operating System related job should
be performed. Please refer to the manual “Ubuntu Linux 14.pdf” available with the deliverable
CD/Media.

Preparation of Videonetics Application Installation:

Please check the folder “Application” in the CD/DVD Media.Required application packages will be
available in this folder.

CAUTION: Before running Videonetics applications, make sure that database

configuration has been carried out successfully.

Note: The following steps show installation guidelines for IVMS Rich version and core
version respectively. The Base version will be exactly the same, only parent folder name
will be different.

Minimum Hardware Requirement: IVMS Base and Rich version requires only one server for its
operation. The minimum specification of the server is given below. However, for better
performance one can always deploy a server with higher specification:
1. Processor: Quad core Xeon, 2.33 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB
2. RAM : 4GB
3. Hard Disk space (MUST be a dedicated non-OS partition for local video clip recording):
a. The partition is to be formatted with ext4 filesystem
b. Partition size: Minimum 1GB per Camera. For 64 cameras it is: 64GB.
c. Additional storage is required if this space is also used as storage for Video
recording in place of a NAS (the amount of storage space required depends on the
bit rate of the video).
d. Rich version of VMS allows you to attach additional storage space in terms of NAS
In addition to the local storage

CAUTION: It is always advisable configure the storage space in HDD

for RAID, if not using a NAS system for storing of Recorded video.

The VMS is now installed in the server hardware in the selected directory (default directory is:
/opt/IVMSRichServer , /opt/IVMSBaseServer or /opt/IVMSCoreServer depending on the distribution of
the package). It is installed with Demo license (30 days, with limited capability).
You can update the package with commercial license any day within 30 days from the date of installation.
Here follows the steps to carry out to get the Licensed version of the software.
1. After successful running of the file “PreInstallation_Linux_x64”, an encrypted key with hardware
information has been generated as a file “hwinfo.v2a” in the folder “license” located in the
installation directory of VMS. Before executing “PreInstallation_Linux_x64”, set executable
permission as below:

2. Please send this file to license@videonetics.com or communicate to the contact person of the
vendor to get a valid License key for the software.
Please update the existing “activation.v2a” by the valid activation key which will be sent be
Videonetics Team.
To take effect of the new activation, System Reboot required.
3. Use Videonetics IVMS Client [ Base, Rich and Core ] software to Log in to the system and
configure it.

The IVMS Client software can be installed in the same machine or at any other machine
connected via LAN to the VMS server. The IVMS Client software along with the
installation manual comes as part of the delivery package.

CHECK: Please check Server’s Time and TimeZone. It is very important to set proper
time and timezone for perfect operation.
