Lesson 1: Object and identity

Hw:
Students will bring an object (1-2) that represents who they are to class next
time. Please answer the question from class again if you decide to change your
object from class at home.
Lesson 3: Transferring image onto styrofoam plate and carving styrofoam plate

1. Carving negative and positive space (show an example print and demo
w/overhead projector)
2. Mirror image
Steps/tasks:
1. Transfer (copy) drawing by lightly sketching onto styrofoam surface with gentle
pressure (light enough to see the pen marks)
2. Carve into styrofoam plate (neg. and pos. space)
3. Go over the pencil marks with heavier pressure with ball point pen (go into the
styrofoam plate). Heavy enough to create indents and creases onto surface but
not enough to make a hole through.
