Kyrie Irving - 2
Kyrie Irving - 2
"No alarm clock needed. My passion wakes me up, " is a quote by Kyrie Irving, a
professional basketball player. Born and raised in Australia on March 23,1992 was a future well
known player in the NBA known as Kyrie Andrew Irving. Kyrie had an older sister and a
younger sister growing up, they all had to move to the US after a little while. At just the age of 4
Kyrie lost his mother to an illness leaving him and his sister to live with his father. Young Kyrie
was inspired to play basketball because his father played basketball professionally. His dad gave
up his career of being a professional to support his family and also wanted his son (Kyrie Irving)
to take over and succeed. From a young age Kyrie was amazing at playing basketball himself at
both Montclair Kimberley Academy and St. Patrick High School. After graduating highschool,
Kyrie went onto Duke University continuing to play basketball. Thanks to his amazing
basketball skills his dream goal was able to come true and was selected to be drafted into the
2011 NBA where his career began.
On Kyrie Irving being a global citizen would be him helping out the women’s NBA.
Kyrie donated $1.5 million dollars to help out the women who choose not to participate in the
WNBA. He supported those women who couldn't participate due to health issues and even those
of race because of a racist and social injustice in Orlando. Many people talked negatively about
him for this. Aside from money he started to spread the word about Breonna Taylor, he knew that
her killers were still out there. Kyrie showed to the whole world he cared about the women that
were supposed to go to Orlando. It made Kyrie be a global citizen for thinking more than just a
game that would take place for entertainment. Kyrie knew these ladies cared more about their
well being than the money, he thought it was best to be a helping hand with money as they would
be losing a lot.
Another global citizen action would be when Kyrie worked together with New York City
charity. Kyrie got together with this charity to donate $ 250k for meals to those in need all over
the city of New York. Another donation he made was the Feeding America and donated about
$323k. He asked his friends, families, and fans to join in towards the donations to this charity.
Kyrie also made a campaign related to the people in need to be able to receive meals during the
hard times of the pandemic. Both of these donations were made during the coronavirus
pandemic, which would be considered big factors of what a global citizen is. The last charity he
is partnering up with is the City Harvest from New York to make sure meals are being provided
to New Yorkers in need.
Kyrie Andrew Irving is a professional basketball player who I look up to not only of his
skills but his act of kindness in helping out others which is one of the reasons why I like helping
others. Kyrie is a good global citizen and many people bash him for some of his acts like the
women from the NBA. Whether it be money, support, or participation in campaigns he has
helped out people all around. He motivates kids with his basketball skills, like myself, and
motivates others to give during times of need.
