Identify an engineer of your choice.
1. Describe his leadership style. Bill Gates’ leadership style is a very participative and a very directive style because all his other subordinates and employees are involved in decision making and they’re allowed to give their opinions and suggestions. He values his staff and knows the importance of his staffs. Bill Gates specifies the task of what needs to be accomplished to achieve productivity and morale in a given situation. This leadership style is known as the democratic leadership style where there is a more participative role in the decision making process. It is found to be one of the most effective leadership styles and leads to higher productivity. The advantage of the democratic leadership style is that it develops a greater feeling of loyalty and commitment to the team from members who play a part in decision making. The leader also feels more supported by his team members. If a decision is very complex and broad, this is where the democratic leader shines. 2. What are those? being Arrogance if he feels like his idea is the best solution, then that is the idea which is pursued. His approach to the work can become a weakness, esp. if there are other ideas presented to consider. Result Driven ,taking an approach sometimes where the “ends justified the means” so there were times when the logical steps of progression were ignored. He become so focused on obtaining the goals that he’d set for himself and his team that he lost track of those steps. Conflict Avoidance, Gates often avoid conflict whenever he could, rather than confront the situation head-on, because the act of conflict made him uncomfortable. When there is an unwillingness to confront an issue, it becomes possible for negative energy to explode and cover a team with its influence.
