Side step drill

Description - Once students are split into groups, have them collect and set up
their equipment
- In each group, further split them into 2 or 3 and have them each
line up on a different cone
- The players of one group take turns of slowly jogging to the
opposite diagonal side of the area and then move quickly to join
the other group
- As each player begins their run, the leading player from the other
group moves out and performs a side step and runs through to
join the other team
- Continue through until everyone has had multiple goes
- Make sure all players have a ball and is performing the frill with
one
Variations Progression:
- Increase the speed of the drill
- Increase the distance
- Add in a defender
- Add in a pass

Regression:
- Walk through the drill at a slow pace until everyone understands
KTP Running with the ball:
- Carry the ball in to hands in front of the body

Side step (evasion):


- Body is positioned to one of the defender
- Knees and hips flex to lower your base of support
- Hand nearest the defender is extended to initiate the touch on
opponent with minimal force
LEST L: Students are in groups of 6
E: 1 ball per students and 4 cones per group
S: 10 x 10m grid (square)
T: 10 minutes

Elimination
Description - Get the class into groups of 6
- Then allocate each group to a playing grid
- Once each group are in their grid, split them into 2 smaller teams
– get 1 team to put on bibs
- Once team has possession of the ball and attempt to touch ball
on the other group without dropping the ball
- The player in possession of the ball can’t move and so the other
team members are force to move around the playing area and
get into a better position to receive a pass and effect a touch
- Swap groups and see if the other team can achieve the same but
faster
Variations Progression:
- Increase the grid size
- Add in a scoring system

Regression:
- Decrease the grid size
KTP Side step (evasion):
- Body is positioned to one of the defender
- Knees and hips flex to lower your base of support
- Hand nearest the defender is extended to initiate the touch on
opponent with minimal force

Passing – step, shift swing


- Hold the middle of the ball with thumbs on top and fingers should
be underneath
- Sing the ball across the body with both hands and elbows slightly
bent
- The head leads the rotation of the upper body towards the
receiver
- Release the ball and follow through in the direction of the pass

Effecting the touch:


- Be positioned to one side of the ball carrier to reduce evasion
options
- Look at the waist or lower trunk of the ball carrier
- Move towards the ball carrier and slow down pace
- Touch the ball carrier with a light top and call out ‘yes’ or ‘touch’
LEST L: Students are in groups of 8
E: 1 ball, 4 cones and 4 bibs
S: 8 x 8m grid (square)
T: 10 minutes

Tap tag
Description Instructions:
- Allocate each half of the class to their designated playing area
- When the teacher blows their whistle, the game will start
- Players run around trying to tag others with their ball, while also
trying to void being tagged themselves
- Player who are tagged must exit the area and perform and a tap
(on their foot)
Variations Progression:
- Make one or two students taggers and run without a ball

Regression:
- Increase the playing area
KTP Running with the ball:
