Forty-five years later, California has risen to become its own nation, the California Independent Area, or CALIA. CALIA is a technological paradise. The birthplace of video communication, aerial cars, clean fusion energy, and the new globalized Super Information Highway, CALIA has almost single-handedly moved mankind into the 21st century. CALIA has been called utopia, the perfect society. Yet beneath the golden veneer lies a dark underbelly of corruption and greed. Senator Robert McAllister, who had plans to see the CALIA constitution ratified and to standardize the Super Information Highway, has been assassinated. Rick Gage, special forces vet, bounty hunter, and concerned citizen, needs to know why. Gage’s father, a high-ranking police officer, was murdered just before McAllister was taken down. There has to be a connection. For the inquisitive Gage, the pursuit of that connection will uncover a conspiracy of global proportions. You are in control of Gage’s inquiries. So that puts you in the driver’s seat—or the hot seat, as you will discover— because you, as Gage, will go up against drug lords, skinheads and cybernetically enhanced warriors, all in pursuit of the truth. Your journey will take you from CALIA’s highest echelons to its darkest underworld to find an answer. And in this adventure for the truth, you'd better watch what you say, because in CALIA, truth kills. The Spectrum Analyzer allows the user to build a bypass chip, using micro components to manipulate the input light beam so that is matches needed output characteristics (Color, Brightness, Beam Width). The Spectrum Analyzer has a built-in help system that explains the purpose of each of the micro components on the right side of its console. To place one of the micro components on the board, use the console’s pointing device to drag and drop the component. Once the component is on the board it can be adjusted with the adjustment controls at the top right of the board. The left-adjust button rotates the component Netrunner around its center and the right button flips the component over. To identify the component being adjusted, the analyzer activates an adjustment rectangle around the component. When this rectangle is activated, the console will display status information of this component. To get the characteristics of any beam entering or leaving any component, activate the adjustment rectangle by clicking on the component. Place the pointer over an input or output of the component. The information will display in the text strip at the bottom of the console. Press Q to exit Spectrum Analyzer. This is an advanced Internet browser with a few non-standard additions. Or you can direct the intruder through the full-view security detection screen. To activate the full-view screen, click on the mini-map in the top right of the Netrunner console, From the full-view screen, you can then direct the intruder to the next node by clicking on that node, or return to the Netrunner console by clicking anywhere else. Between the mini-map and the direction keypad is the security level indicator and two virus launching buttons. The security level indicator displays the level on which the target file is located (right), and the intruder’s current level (left). The top of the two virus launching buttons sets a trap for any security programs that run into it. [WARNING: The intruder can carry one or two of these viruses.] The bottom virus button launches a temporary security crashing virus that lets you ignore the node’s security system. [WARNING: This virus has a side-effect of resetting the intruder to passive mode.] Press Q to exit Netrunner, DNA Splicer This device is used to rebuild DNA samples that have been damaged. To move a loose DNA segment to the Long Base Pair Chain (LBPC) display, use the console’s pointing device. The active window can be moved along the LBPC display by clicking on the adjustment button at the bottom of the window and dragging it along the LBPC display. To adjust a segment’s orientation, click the console’s pointing device on it. This will cycle it through the four possible orientations. We're talking about some powerful pieces of technology here; and | feel sorry for any poor eemo who gets in the way. The DNA fingerprint decoder further minimizes damage to the sample by comparing groups of adjacent base pairs as a group (if any one base pair in the group is wrong BASIC WEAPONRY then the whole group is wrong). Using the latest in ocular modification, this small cybernetic implant projects a heads-up display directly over the user's visual range. The combatant can target enemies, keeping track of an opponent’s health and shields. The combatant is also supplied with pertinent information about his own status, allowing instant energy transfer from weapons to shields when taking a beating. Don’t be cannon fodder. Use the Banzai 1200 and gain the ultimate combat advantage. © 2094 Banzai Electronics International Description of Combat Interface The Combat Interface is composed of two rounded side bars on the left and right sides of the screen, and a heads-up display in the center overlaying the game action. Left Side i The Stunner Power Meter: In the middle of the left side. Only available when stunner is selected for the left button weapon. This indicates how much energy is available to your stunner. It is reduced every time you use your stunner. If you do not use your stunner it will slowly recharge. If your energy is low, the bar will reveal a red area when it reduces. The Ammunition Counter: In the middle of the left side. Stunner cannot be selected for the left button. This indicates how much ammunition you have available for your current left button weapon. Ammunition is displayed by a representation of your clip, showing how many bullets are left. Below the clip is a number showing how many clips you have left in the gun. The Grenade Counter: Top of the left side. This indicates how many grenades you have left. Right Side The Shield Power Meter: \n the middle of the right side. This indicates how much energy is available to your shields. It is reduced every time you are hit (when the Interface flashes red). If you run out of shield energy, you start to take physical damage. If your shield energy is low, it will reveal a red area as it reduces. The Physical Status indicator: Bottom right. This indicates your physical status. It is not affected until you run out of shields. The status is indicated by the color surrounding the silhouette. As you take physical damage, this color will change from green to red. When it reaches red, you die and the mission is a failure. The Kill Counter: Top Right. This indicates how many opponents you have stunned during the current mission. It increases incrementally each time you stun an enemy. Middle The Gun Indicators: Middle bottom. This shows which gun you have selected for your left and right mouse buttons (left box - left button, right box - right button). These can be cycled using the < Z > or <. > (period) keys for the left weapon, and the
or > (slash) keys for the right weapon. You can have the same gun on each button. Heads-Up Display The heads-up display overlays the game action. It becomes active when you click the firing cursor on an enemy. This selects that enemy and brings up the Targeting Circle. The Targeting Circle has multiple uses: Enemy Shield/Health indicators: Shows how much Shield/Health an enemy has left. The Health indicator is shown as a circle around the Targeting Circle. If there is a second circle around the Targeting Circle, that enemy has a shield. The strength of the Shield and Health indicators is color-coded from green for high to red for low. Explosive weapon lock: When you use a Rocket Launcher or a Grenade, the weapon will fire at the targeted enemy. If there is no targeted enemy the weapon will not fire. Breaking lock: This can be done in two manners, stunning the enemy into submission, or pressing the
or <’ > (apostrophe) key to break the lock. Balancing Energy ‘As you advance through the mission, you may find yourself running low on Stunner or Shield energy. These bars slowly regenerate when not in use; but sometimes this is not enough. To solve this problem, you can transfer energy from one side to the other by using the
